Best method would be to wash the acidic mix with a solvent that pulls a very wide range of organic matter. Like Chloroform or DCM. You want to avoid acetone. Reason: It removes alot more crud.
Easiest method would be to wash the acidic mixture with naptha. Reason: Naptha is easy to come by for many people. It's wide availability makes it reasonably easy to perform a defat with.
Avoid solvents that can dissolve polar compounds (like acid salts) and are miscible with water. This is why you'd avoid using acetone, Dimethyl Sulfoxide is also miscible with water and can dissolve your polar compounds (your dmt acid salt).
My vote would be to simply stick with naptha.
