It's been a while since I visited the spice realm. A few weeks ago I heard the other dimension calling and did a 50g extraction to test the waters. I ended up with about 1g yellow nectar of waxy consistence. Some herbs were infused with it and I vaped it with a smile on my face. It gave me some warm and mellow sub-breakthroughs, abiding in the lotus of the heart.
After spending a lot of time in meditation and trying to keep myself as clean as possible, I tried another formula.
At first I filled a jug with 4l of water and 270g NaOH, shook vigorously and let it cool down in a water bath until the jug wouldn't heat any more. Then I slowly added 270g finely powdered MHRB. Letting it sit for 30 minutes in a hot water bath. Later I poured about 200ml tuloul for the first pull. To ease separation I put the jug in a hot water bath and let it sit for 30 minutes shaking it occasionally. That's were I ran out of solvent.
Now my question: How should I store the lye-bark-solution? tuloul is very pricey at my place and therefore I need to continue the extraction at a later time. Will any of the magic get lost in the jug?
The next step would be washing the tuloul with washing soda and letting the solvent evaporate until it's saturated enough. Then freeze-precipitate for 48 hours.
Would it be possible to decrease the amount of solvent used in this formula? What would be the best water:MHRB:solvent ratio so that I don't need to evaporate a shitload of the solvent to saturate.

Peace

IMO I'd only use around 50-75ml per pull !!
Considering 30ml of warm nps holds 1g spice ... Hope this help Thumbs up

Just store in a glass container with a lid (bottle) It will last for years and you won't lose anything.
Solvent needn't be pricey...you can use lighter fluid (naphtha), it's cheap and you can re-use it.

Also, just need to put this out there, if you're really strapped for solvent, do your pulls and do a mini a/b. So combine it with some vinegar, shake around, then reuse the solvent for the second pull. Repeat until your fifth pull or so. If you're using salt in the base soup a la Cyb, five pulls should be plenty. The (non-iodized) salt really helps push goodies out into the solvent.

Anyways, after your five pulls with the recycled solvent (using fresh vinegar each time, just to make sure) then do a little bit of a defat if the vinegar has taken on any colour. If you're not wanting to waste toluol, then yeah grab some lighter fluid for that.

Then base the vinegar and pull with the recycled toluol. Like Earthwalker said, yeah use a little less than you used first. This ensures that the solvent is as close to saturated as possible when going into the freeze precip. Freeze it, put the other half of your solvent in (assuming you only have 100~ml) and then freeze that separately. Keep going with the two batches. Then when you aren't getting any precipitate, you can start doing an evap before putting it in the freezer. This ensures that you're not evapping solvent you'll need later, until the soup is depleted.

Hope this makes sense Razz

@ Winemaker
Just to make clear that I'm getting you right. What is the mini a/b doing? Does the spice migrate from the solvent into the vinegar so that I can reuse the solvent before doing the freeze-precipitation? Then after doing a number of pulls I combine all the vinegar, basify it to pH 14 and do a last pull with toloul. Didn't use any salt in my extraction so I will skip that. Or can I add it to the naoh-bark-solution?

Thanks
