I wanted to like it really I did. It tried to take on too much , the whole film felt rushed .
Script was not great . interesting film but no 2001

I thought it was pretty great, though not without a few flaws. The 5D scene was amazing.

The sound mixing is definitely bad in a few spots.

My main gripe is that the characters make some catastrophically stupid decisions early on that could have easily been avoided by just thinking a bit about the consequences of black holes and time dilation on nearby planets.

My guess is that we will see an extended directors cut, since it definitely seemed rushed.

I didn't really know anything about the movie before I saw it. Had no expectations. Was tired and when the movie started I wasn't too happy about it being almost 3 hours. But I loved it. Yes felt a little rushed at times but it was a lot to cover and 3 hours is a lot of time for people to sit in a theatre.
Will watch it again in a year or so Smile And maybe I'll watch Contact again in the meantime Smile

Oh man, what can I say. I'm speechless. I've been waiting for this movie for way too long and now I can say it was totally worth it.

The sound effects made me jump from the sit a few times in the cinema. I'm really excited, and kind of sad because it's already over. Looking forward to see it again soon.

By the way, the tesseract reminded me of a lucid dream I had time ago where I could control dimensions. Also the wormhole tunnel was pretty similar to the DMT experience I had yesterday.

Saw it.........meh. Not much to make you REALLY think, and the math they used on Relativity theory was completely wrong to accommodate the (weak) story line. Crossing black holes and wormholes as the same thing just doesn't work.......but it fit the story Huh?

Cool special effects in the crucial hyperspace scene for sure, I think a no-name actor could have done it better though. Made me think more about my family relationships than any master plan for the species or planet.........enjoy every moment people life is short no matter what choices you make!

For the record, I love scifi and space/time twists when they're well done. Not bashin this movie completely but it's not a "must see in theater" flick for real sci-if fans.

I just saw it a couple hours ago and I was amazed. Now, you really have to suspend disbelief for a lot of it... I am a mathematician and most of the math on the boards appeared nonsensical (they could have had at least somewhat accurate stuff like on "The Big Bang Theory" boards). And a lot of the astronomy stuff was a bit ridiculous, as black holes/wormholes/stars are SO hot and SO dense you would be crushed by the gravity before even reaching the surface of anything.

There was also some plot holes, cliches, and poorly written scenes. However,

I say I was amazed because of the beautiful imagery, even if it did seem Star-Wars-ish at some points. And the references to "them" and the higher dimensions, much of which was theoretically accurate, really made me think about some of my DMT experiences and some of the theories surrounding DMT. I think it's a great movie for anyone who likes to theorize about hyperspace, and because it matched up so well with my thoughts, I thought it was very relatable and cool. I would recommend it!

Just a great movie. Really loved it and thought this article was nice to read about the way the black whole was made: http://www.wired.com/2014/10/as...interstellar-black-hole/

I was so glad to see a thread on this movie - thanks for all the responses, excited to go see it!

I'm sure it can never be as good as Dune, however Razz

Me too, A. There was a point when i was watching when i went from "wtf" to "ohhh, DMT!" and thought about how i had to post about it.

Dune, huh? Never watched the movie, was always bummed that Giger didn't get to use his designs. I do want to see the current movie that's about Jodo"s Dune.

There are basically 3 dune movies. I like all three. The first is the 84 dune based on frank herberts novel. The other two were a mini series, one is basically a remake of the 84 film and children of dune, which is based on two books by frank herbert. The one your talking about null is a documentary rather than a movie and i recommend you watch all three movies. I thought they were all good personally.

On topic, i cant wait to see interstellar. Have read some bad reviews but i dont watch movies with much expectations and generally enjoy films that others critique to death... Like prometheus.

I went to see interstellar at the pictures last night. I can"t really say that i was blown away. I didn"t really understand what was going on as the version i watched wasn"t in English and sound was terrible due to the speakers in the picturehouse being knackered. Whenever a bassy part of the soundtrack came on, any dialogue that i could understand was overpowered by the speakers making farting noises, so i can"t really comment on the scientific accuracy.
I liked the last half hour of the film but that doesn"t include the last 10 minutes. Which were cheesier than a piece of 10 year old camembert.
We did get some free tickets after the show after complaining about the unsupportable sound quality, so i will probably go and watch the hobbit at xmas.

I rather enjoyed Interstellar. As stated above, I too was not blown away.. however, I also enjoyed the ending, which only a few will say about it. To me, the ending wasn't completely logical but open, positive and tryptamine-like.. salvia too in many ways. An empathic view is useful for understanding movies like this.

Apparently Stephen Hawking (SH) had an influence on this movie. This is what he said.

Just want to agree with all of the speculation surrounding that 5D scene...... it was so accurate as to be instantly recognizable. That grid like area where any glance out at any angle leads to an ALMOST exactly similar time/space with that one slight twist.... darn near pissed my pants! And the entities that brought them there? One of the greatest hyperspacial representations I have ever seen.

Watched it in imax today, not impressive that much. All those ratings on imdb and others pure hype and bullsh*t. There was some pretty interesting moments but in general just another scifi movie. And i have to agree with comments about that scene in 5th dimensions. When that guy started to enter black hole i thought "oh this is it!", reminded me a lot dmt experience.

OK, so, I finally caught on and went to watch it tonight.

Spoiler alert here!

The main thought I am left with is how the black hole 5th dimension scene could also represent a typical near death experience. Moving towards the light, panoramic review of your life... Hell they didn't call him a gost for nothing. I am wondering if I would have liked a more open ending better. Maybe leave it at the near death experience and have us think a bit more... Or maybe he is dead and the actual ending of the movie was just his afterlife? A fantasy of continuing your life... Maybe that's what we all get when we go?

Ah well, I enjoyed it!!

I thought the movie was amazing. There were a few parts where I wondered if the music could have been more appropriate, and some of the character's actions were questionably realistic, but I think that the arc of the story is very philosophically compelling. Even if it falls short of the legacy of 2001, I felt that the spirit of the film is reaching in the same ambitious direction. It does not cling to the popular narrow-minded vision of future technology but rather transcends it by not being afraid to acknowledge that what the future holds is completely beyond the horizon of our current understanding. It touches on some very profound concepts, such as eternalism, thus holding the audience to relatively high standards for a big-budget Hollywood movie. I'm a physicist, so I can confirm that most of the physics dialogue was cringe-worthy, but the movie at least makes up for it by invoking physics that doesn't exist yet.

Every day I am thankful that I was introduced to psychedelic drugs.

I enjoyed it as well. Unfortunately I watched a crappy bootleg copy with horrible sound and picture quality, but even so it was the best movie I've seen in quite a while. Can't wait to get the real DVD. I have to agree that it reminded me of 2001, it would be nice if Hollywood would produce more movies like this.
