I made my first attempt at running a tek, this week. I've been researching them for a few months now so I could understand what's going on chemically, and eventually ended up going with Lextek.
I started with the acid cook, using 99.84% acetic acid, working my way down to a Ph of 4, or at least as close as I could get it (my reading strips only went down to 6.. should've read the package).
After about an hour, stirring every couple of minutes or so, I used a funnel and a separator to filter out all of the plant material. I then added lye to basify the solution to a Ph of 14, again, as close as I could get it, given the poor choice in measurement tools.
After basified, I added in my non-polar solvent and waited for it to separate. I performed three pulls and left it in a container in the back of my freezer to evaporate.
The last step left is to defat to remove any other adulterants, however, the crystals that have formed already are nearly pure white. After all of the solvent has evaporated, I'll run it through the last wash to complete the defat.
Hopefully it turns out well, I'll be sure to inform you all how the tek turns out, as well as providing an experience report.
Until then,
-Jew
