Which ones are easiest to grow in the mid-atlantic area.Also which are better for indoors/outdoors. Whats the best way to get started.Just grab a pot and some dirt and go?

Trichocereus is always my first choice. It is SUPER easy to grow, as well as other cacti.



Most all cacti are good for half a season outside and half a season indoors, it's really easy to care for in the winter you just do nothing!



Get a few Trichocereus cuttings and some Lophophora seeds.

Any speciialty items needed or can I just use some Miracle grow dirt and tap water. Also Im guessing that the cacti should be potted as to avoid transplanting in the winter.

I'm having great success (finally) with just cactus potting soil....though I'm a noob at growing.

What was hindering your success?

The idea of growing Trichocereus outside in the ground has crossed my mind a few time and I actually tried it with one cactus this year, I'll let you know how it goes!

Notes- Amounts vary depending on species, try to create a soil make-up that mimics a specimens natural habitat. Study what trace elements and minerals exist in each species habitats and add them accordingly.

Make your own soil and water with rain-water.

Any commercial cacti soil can be substituted for "Rich Dark Soil" if you don't have your own compost. The Organic Cactus Fertilizer is just compost with lots of trace minerals which come from adding things like seaweed and fishes.

I think seed is just as good for trichocereus as long as the seeds are reliable no cuzcoensis just real pedros,bridgesii,torches,or some hybrids. Get some good grafting stock for like pereskiopsis and you'll seriously speed up growth in under a year(lophs you should leave longer) then degraft and let it grow naturally,or graft to a permanent grafting stock like hylocereus(especially if you like dragonfruit),myrtillocactus,san pedro and lots more.

Ya! Ya! Get Lophophora AND Trichocereus seeds!

Even if you can only cultivate one or two botanicals, please consider doing so... not only do many ethnobotanicals make good house plants but you would be ensuring the genetic preservation of entheogens for future generations... imagine a world where Lophophora williamsii or any other entheogen had gone extinct in the wild... if efforts are not made now to preserve psychoactive botanicals and shamanic knowledge... I fear they may be lost forever. Who can say how many countless entheogens have already been lost in the mists of the past?

Yep this is how we will win...
I know we are on the same page here..I want to eventually get some land and grow tons of entheogens, and set up an area to have cermeonies with anyone who wants to expereince these things..that way they will always be available and I can give live plants away freely to others that are interested. I want to give something back to the world, and this is the best I think I could do..preserve this precious knowledge..Imagine if we all did this,to the best of capabilities/space available etc...we could show the wrold that we are more than just a bunch of tripped out druggies..we are farmers, healers, cartakers of sacred and ancient knowledge, keeping the spark of life and mystery alive to share with others..watchers of the sacred bond between man and mother gaia..
