A few beauties one helped bring into existence, thought i'd share some of ones previous success with other tryptamines. These are Golden Teacher, know for its slightly above average size fruits in later flushes and innate qualities. It is said no one know exactly where the original race or 'strain' was found. Neat and mysterious! These were grown with simply Wild Bird Seed, and Vermiculite "rez effect" style.

Thumbs up

Very nice, congrats on producing decent fruits Smile Are they completely cracker dry in that jar? If not I recommend the dried Epsom salt method for getting them cracker dry before storage or they might spoil before use. Could just be the photograph though.

Ah, no worries. Good, the best storage place for mushrooms is your stomach!

Epsom salt absorbs water from the air. If you heat it up in an oven until it becomes very white, rock-like and brittle then you have a desiccant. Let it cool then lock half dry mushrooms in an airtight container with it and they will be mummified (they don't need to touch the salt).

Beautiful!

Orion, how much epsom salt and what oven settings to heat them up?

Do you just lay the shrooms on top of the epsom salt?

Beautiful specimens you have grown there!
I too have just wrapped up a small-scale Golden Teacher grow. I have grown a few different cubes now, but GT were my first and still my favorite. They are beautiful-looking and also have full, thick, fleshy stems where a lot of other varieties have hollow ones. And indeed, they tend to produce a few monstrously large mushrooms, even though I've had this happen in the first flush rather than later on as well. Good luck on your future endeavors Thumbs up

Oh, say about... 200-250c ? About 400 f. It can take a while. You can have it in there cooking along with food, so long as it is covered with foil on a different shelf. A kilo of epsom salt should be more than enough. The more epsom salt and the smaller the drying tub, the better. Remember to smash it into chunks and use a proper airtight container with a rubber seal with a clip lid. A good quality food storage container for example. It has to be rated airtight or air proof.

You can just put some mesh on top of the salt chunks and lay the mushrooms on that. Whatever you use, you should be able to see the chunks right through it, that way you know the air is free to move around a bit inside and dry out. You could also lay down a bunch of cocktail sticks or skewers or something if you're in a bind. Cloth or tissue might work, but it might slow things down and the mushrooms might stick to it.

This can take a day or two with half dried fungus, but it gets them completely dessicated. You can freeze these in an airtight container and not have to worry about any residual moisture and they won't thaw and spoil when you take them out.

I've seen reports of people tripping on batches dried like this 8 years later. I bet it would last longer.

But I am curious what is this 'rez effect' style you mention? I am unfamiliar, could you provide any link or info on this for me?

Fungalfanatic, the rez effect is basically a slang term for adding field capacity vermiculite to a substrate, generally a 50/50 mix. Kind of like a casing. The idea is the verm. Holds moisture and creates a micro climate. Some talk down on the method as it's not considered a true bulk substrate. But it is simple, cheap, and ive had great success!

they weren't mine, but someone ate them. one gathered that the affects were very similar with whats generally said to be common among the golden teacher race a.k.a. strain.

A good head high, body buzz / inner mind spiritual cleansing jounrey. compared to some other races, one feels produce more colorful vision and head trip high with less physical body energy. a trade off worth experimenting with. one enjoys all. obviously some say a cube is a cube, but one that spends time with the mushrooms will begin to notice differences.
