I don't understand!

The very first time I tried to do an extraction on MHRB, everything worked perfectly. Ground the bark up, made a basified water solution, added naphtha, pulled, freeze precip, and got plenty of little crystals.

A couple months later, i ordered powdered MHRB, and followed the exact same steps with the same chemicals. Of 200+ g of MHRB powder, i was able to extract *ONE* hyperspace trip worth of the alkaloids...

So, thinking it was the pre-shredded bark, i opted to buy whole bark pieces this most recent time, last week. I coarsely ground up about 50g of bark, threw it in 1.25 cups (~300mL) water with a couple spoonfulls of lye, and let it sit.

The naphtha turned clear, so I assumed all was well after a day. I pulled it, evapped (since now I dont have a cold enough freezer) and was left solely with plant fats (i think...). all I got left over were a few oily bubbles of yellow..

Whats the deal? should I heat the solution? that seems to work with some people.

I just dont understand. I follow the same methods that work for countless people, yet with no results... I just dont understand.


Some additional info: The very first time i did it, with the great yields, i just eyeballed everything. Worked fine.
The second time, I carefully measured everything out to the gram. didnt work at all. And now, once again, i'm trying the eyeball method.

Maybe you need a pH meter...

Some bark is just horrible!

SWIM says bark from BBB has yet to let him down. He pulled off 50-75g grams of bark for a month straight. He could have continued to pull but decided the spice can take a break. Last pull was great and still sitting in his pipe.

SWIM has never weighed anything but did measure water. 750mL and 5-10 teaspoons of lye. SWIM has never used heat except to shatter a jar once.

Your freezer does not need to be that, but the colder the better. Try the freeze precip again. Can you post a pic of the stuff you got?

I've heard mixed rumours about BBB, but if the majority say their stuff is decent, next time i'll order from there.

I'm not sure this feezer is cold enough... Just your typical fridge/freezer combo. Freezes ice cream fairly solid, but not rock hard or anything.


Also, I failed to mention this before, i think, but I put a layer of plastic wrap on thetop of the jar, under the lid, in case the lid was aluminum, and rolled the jar several times and mixed it decently. I dont know if the lye melted/dissolved the plastic wrap or what, but ever since, there's been a layer of grainy white stuff under the naphtha and over the lye/bark/water... Is this DEFINITELY plastic, or *could* it be DMT precipitate?

My friend has been getting GREAT yields from powdered bark from 100herbgalaxy using Third Eye Tek.

It's also extremely easy. I'm not at all affiliated with 100hg just mentioning it. Where is your friend getting his/her bark and what tek are they using? Maybe bark quality is the issue.

Just reread, it looks like you're using a freehand stb method. That means you'll probably be extracting a lot of the oils besides just dmt.Try letting the oil-looking stuff evaporate a little longer, then try sticking it in the freezer to see if it solidifies (it should) usually once my friend does that it stays solid. You could smoke it as it is or recrystalize to clean it up (search for "re-crystalization pictorial"

Interesting... I actually put it in the freezer for about 5 hours today, and like you said, i got a solid mass of yellow.. Hopefully it wont just melt into plant fats after this... I'm used to crystals precipitating!

I just need a very good tek that doesnt require a lot of materials (like a crock pot, wine jug, etc) and thats simple... Haha, thats why i chose the tek I did which can be found at the shroomery.

Anyway, i'll keep you updated. If what I got is in fact a mass of DMT, my girl will be going on an adventure tonight.
