Hm, so I was thinking about some of the admixtures added with other psychoactive plants to alter the experience or make it stronger.

With cacao beans I see some recommending verbenna flower & gotu kola. saying it gives the cacao more of an expanse or room for the experience to grow. I haven't tried either of these yet, but they're both on my list.Smile

I was wondering if anyone here has taken plants like these or others with mushrooms + possibly adding a few grams of tea extracted/evaporated passionflower as an maoi?

I'm also wondering if adding maoi to mushrooms takes away from the mushroom is there in itself? maybe make it stronger but shorter? or stronger & longer yet altered?

recommendations for complimentary herbs to take with mushies?

I've found cacao to be a fantastic addition to mushrooms,
I prefer the whole beans and they're great combined
with candied ginger.

I also find cacao to enhance most experiences. Pleased

Cannabis is sufficient enough to propel an experience. Certainly can alter and enhance the overall toning and stoning effect. Wink My first encounter with mushrooms was also mixed with a nice joint, so it took on a very unique, synergistic effect. Harmalas and or b.caapi are other potent admixtures.
Herbs that may help ease the experience are herbs that have tranquil, sedative and/or euphoric, stimulating and intoxicant effects.

With passionflower, you will need a lot of material to work with afaik. Passiflora can add synergistic effects that are tranquil in effect, and of course potentiation.

Quote:
1996 p. inacarnata + acacia extract huasca experiment (an incarnata vaporized extract experiment is referred to in Voogelbreinder 2009)

"...approx. 1kg of purchased dry passiflora incarnata stem & leaf was boiled X3 in rain water...the large amount of liquid was combined and reduced over several hours, turning increasingly dark purple/brown and thick..,while still possible it was filtered several times through fine cheesecloth...a point of viscosity was reached at which 1 hypothesized dose (333grams of herb) equalled a large glass or coffee mug of thick liquid (the aromas during the process were noted to be somewhat mildly psychoactive)
...A dosage of estimated at = 400 grams herb was consumed by two subjects...5 minutes afterwards approx. 50-70mg of a. obtusifolia extract as the freebase was rapidly swallowed and chased with water/lemon juice (to remove the awful freebase aftertaste)
...Within 10 minutes strong sedative and 'anti-depressant' effects from the passiflora were felt...as these grew (without yet tryptamine effects) it was commented that this plant alone was a satisfying experience...A shiny and pleasant 'haze' surrounded lights...At around 90 minutes, after it was pondered that maybe MAO inhibition was not sufficient, tryptamine-like effects (geometries, '4D-ness', auditory) rapidly grew over 10 minutes accompanied by sudden purging...
...Both subjects found the intensity of colors beyond their previous experiments with a. extract and p. harmala or b. caapi...'fantastic bright blues, reds, purples and golden hues.'...It was subjectively judged as more sedative or narcotic than rue or caapi with a strong 'dreaminess'...rue was judged the 'clearest', caapi unique in other ways...
'It made the tryptamines very dreamy, colorful, and beautiful...very feminine.'
...After a linear 'plateau' of 30 minutes, effects gradually subsided over 2-4 hours, with a sense of sedation up to 5hrs afterwards. Overall, it was very positive...'It lacked the punch of rue, but had such a lovely dreamy quality...very sensual...'..."
'What's going to happen?' 'Something wonderful.'

As mentioned, cannabis goes very well with mushrooms. I haven't tried those other herbs with them though.

An MAOI with mushrooms is pretty intense. The only maoi I've taken with them is peganum harmala which worked great. It doubles their potential and extends the duration. Make sure to start at lower doses with maoi's, and follow the cautions with conflicting medications and foods.

Bongfuls of 10x caapi leaf is spectacular on mushrooms. Or even just caapi on it's own in my experience. Passionflower tea is nice to. There is some harmalas in there, but not too much.

Theobromine is a known potentiator of tryptamines, so it makes sense that cacao would work well in combination with psilocybe mushrooms. Theobromine is also an efficient vasodilator, so I use capsules full of theobromine powder to counteract the uncomfortable vasoconstriction which is often caused by certain tryptamine and ergoline alkaloids.

Personally I really don't like combining cannabis with mushrooms, nor any other psychedelic for that matter. However I only use cannabis on rare occasions, so I am much more sensitive to its effects than people who use it frequently or daily.

Hey Thank you. Gonna try with cacao beans, maybe verbenna or something like it. passionflower later into it n cannabis maybe..

wanted to add, a while ago had a single mushroom and took it with some strong passionflower tea that was evaporated (quite a bit cause it was very weak) The whole experience was very light but had an added dreamyness to it that's hard to explain, lasted a bit longer than mushrooms alone and it was very pleasant.

Would cacao nibs work well? Or should it be a whole bean. And what quantity are we talking here to make use of the cacao? 2-3 or like an ample handful?

Dont think its an herb but, Syrian Rue (Peganum harmala) from the harmala family is the only thing one has tried in combination that was notable, besides weed of course. Cannabis is a must IMO when it comes to boomers...

It was quite an intense experience! had an unmeasured amount, some partially dried and some still wet. say it was equivalent to about 2 grams dried...

remembering sweating profusely with moments of time where one simply did not move or speak at all. It wasn't to say that one wasn't capable of doing so, one just was very at peace in some strange way. have not really ever felt like that even on other stronger trips. am sure it was an influence of the syrian rue. a memorable moment in time to say the least...

Yeah, cacao nibs will work out great. it's just a little easier to get an idea how much you're taking without a scale if you get the whole beans.
Usually a ceremonial dose is described from anywhere between 2-4oz, but it may depend on the batch. Enjoy the cacao, little at a time Smile

This thread has some great info for cacao & combinations

this was also a pretty good read

Lemon Balm feels like a gentle full body embrace. It is amazing, good right before bed!
With caapi, i have only tried it once or twice. I can see how it could be nice with a full brew! Also with mushrooms....you'd have to test and report back.

Recently tried a threshhold mushroom dose with a bit of kava. I don't know, won't try that again.

Some people have suggested lemon oil (not balm, which is a completly different plant). I'd like to see this more researched. Might as well try lemon oil solo first...got a bottle somewhere....

Tried the good 'ol caapi bong hits on mushrooms, after smoking some spice on top of it. Made the trip calmer, close eye visuals were very beautiful, smooth and crystalline.

If you can tolerate rue-tea (meaning you don't get sick Sick from it) i would suggest to try it. To avoid stomach problems i pulverize the shrooms and lemon-tek them.
Imho its the best thing to do.
A strong dose of rue with a small dose of shrooms can give you a short, strong, Ayahuasca like experience, and a floaty, super-euphoric after glow which can last for days.
Its elevating, highly antidepressive and boosts intuition, creativity and sensibility much more than shrooms alone.
In my experience, its perfect to work through fears and problems, since it hits fast after ingesting, its intense enough, but doesn't last too long and exhaust you too much.

I can confirm from personal experience that harmalas (I use purified extract, not rue seeds) are a very nice combination with mushrooms. It more than doubles up the strength of the mushrooms, with enough harmala it even goes beyond just mushrooms. The afterglow is so really nice compared to straight mushrooms.

This fall I plan to experiment a bit with the combination of magic mushrooms (psilocybe semilanceata) and dried amanita muscaria.

As to marihuana, I have smoked it for over 25 years and it was actually a magic mushroom experience that got me to quit smoking it. I'm not saying that it is bad, I just felt that I had had enough and didn't like some of the bad effects anymore. For the good ones, I don't need to smoke it anymore.
