I have about 110g of b. caapi that I want to brew and drink before I move (November), since I won't be able to take it with me. I've read through recipes on this board, the Ayahuasca.com forums, and erowid.com, but I still am a little confused about the whole brewing process. My first few DMT extractions were very rough and I know for a fact that I wasted a lot of valuable plant material from negligence, improper preparation, etc. I'd like to avoid this with the aya brew since I plan on brewing the caapi all at once, so it's more of a one shot deal.

So here are my questions:

- What happens to the plant material in between boils? I know that you're supposed to boil for 3 hours, filter, and repeat twice more. Does the plant material go back into the second pot after it's filtered, or does it simply get disposed of?

- After the 3x3 hour boils, what happens? I've read teks that say to boil it down for an additional 3 hours, teks that say to put the mixture in fridge overnight and boil it the next day, and teks that say just to drink it after the 9 hours of boiling.

- Is there any specific amount of water/vinegar that should be used? Again, most teks I've read say simply "a bit of water" or "a few tablespoons" of vinegar.

They may seem like dumb questions, but I'm the kind of person that still wouldn't be able to tie my own shoelaces if I hadn't gotten explicit instructions on every single step of the process when I was younger. I tend to lack common sense and don't want to mess this up.

Thanks. Smile

it goes back in the pot. boiling a pot of plain water by itself has nothing to do with brewing ayahuasca lol.

you make 3 brews from the plant matter, and then combine and filter.

well after you do 3 brews, all the goodies are in your brew, its just a matter of boiling it down so its a drinkable amount of liquid.

putting it in the fridge overnight would probably do nothing, except help some particulates settle to the bottom of the liquid, which you can filter out.

vinegar is not necessary, and if you plan on drinking the brew (not extracting it) i would highly recommend you nix the vinegar altogether.

as far as water goes, minimal water, but still enough to brew (you really could use a gigantic vat of water if you want - its jut more to boil down).
3 small brews is ideal.
you can always add more water to your shit as the brew starts to dry up..

Thanks for the reply. I figured that the plant material went back into the pot after each boil, I was just confused as to what the point of filtering/straining the brew 3 times is instead of just letting it sit for the whole period.

Boiling the same plant material three times with fresh water each time boiling will get out more of the alkaloids than one big long boiling would.

It is similar to cleaning a paintbrush: taking fresh solvent a few times cleans out more of the paint than washing the brush in the same pot of dirty solvent.
