SWIM would like to know what some of your experiences are with extracting your own DMT and which form worked the best for you. SWIM has done many extractions and has gotten crystals ranging from white and fluffy to yellow and sticky/oily. SWIM has also used three different plants (Mimosa Hostilis, Psychotria Viridis and Acacia Confusa) and found that Mimosa Hostilis extractions yielded the highest amount crystals with the crystals being pure white and fluffy. Please share with SWIM some of your diffrent results from your own yields and which plant species is your favorite and why. Also, does the color/texture of the DMT crystals have an effect on the the kind of trip you have?

Both/all of the above. I have never noticed any difference in effect between white, clear, yellow, orange, red, oily, or waxy DMT extracted from multiple different plant sources. I'm fairly confident that I couldn't tell a difference between any of the samples in a blind test. Also, this forum really discourages the whole "SWIM" thing. It is pointless and makes posts more difficult to read.

What entheogenetor said.
Only one person I know of did a blind test and could not tell the difference.
Even very small amount of impurities can affect dmt crystallization and color. In fact, even the same batch of DMT can crystallize in different forms depending on crystallization method, since DMT is polymorphic. Pure DMT can also be seen as an oil. While the substance itself wouldn`t change in terms of qualitative effects depending on crystallization form, it could affect boiling point and therefore rate of ingestion which has an effect on trip strenght.
Regarding the content of the dmt extractions, most of the tests we`ve done so far on red vs yellow vs white dmt have shown very small differences in alkaloid content, basically some minor peaks from beta carboline related substances. Whether in such amounts they can affect the trip it is still unknown, but if so, they`d have to be very powerful substances. My guess is that in the amounts found in typical extractions of mimosa diplopterys and psychotria, it would not be noticeable. The DMT experience itself is already so variable even when smoking the same batch, same dose, I´d speculate that people could not tell difference in a blind test between such different colored batches. But again, only once we do those tests we`d know. Some people claim to feel differences but only one has actually gone through with blind testing and could not differentiate.
One thing to note though, is that when talking about Acacia or Phalaris extractons, there is a greater alkaloid variability, so it´s harder to generalize. Acacia confusa can have up to 70% NMT which is qualitatively different than DMT according to those who tried it purified. So an extraction from Acacia confusa, whether that is an oil or in crystals, if it has that high NMT content, could be different subjectively. Or other Acacias or Phalaris that have different tryptamines or beta carbolines. I never tried NMT or Acacia nor Phalaris extracts myself so I can´t say from experience.

I've been wanting to do a small-scale blind test to either prove or disprove my theory, but I have had a hard time finding trustworthy people who are willing to smoalk the magic multiple times within a short time period. I do have a couple of willing subjects, so hopefully I can gather some solid data on this topic in the next few months.

Hmm, it's a bit of a "subjective" and "depends on the person" situation. I personally think your thoughts can influence it. There is this general idea that many people have that "white powder is the purest," so while smoking white freebase they might think it's the purest they could possibly get, and their own minds will make the trip stronger. They might think that yellow/red spice is "dirty," especially after reading about the presence of plant alkaloids (Avg joe: "What the fuck are those man? They sound dirty and chemically!" ). My opinion is that if it's real DMT (even if a friend extracted I like to do a Marquis test), I'm fine. I tend to be much more worried about the ingestion method and "if I'm getting it all." DMT is the primary substance, and even really waxy goo would be mostly DMT. You will not be able to tell the difference between 30mg of DMT, or 30mg of DMT mixed with a few mg of impurities. It's still the 30mg's of DMT that blasts you off into hyperspace. As long as the amounts match, your brain will receive the same amount and will have an equally strong effect.
If you want as little plant oil impurities as possible, then use heptane (which is very selective) for your pulls and do freeze-precipitations instead of evaporation, so that the majority of the oils remain in the solvent.
Slight pre-evaporation is okay, and will increase the freeze precip yield. But never evaporate all of it, since doing so would release all of the oils (which is what's responsible for the yellow color and the waxiness).
It might be worth mentioning that old-school DMT extractors used to smoke yellow wax. This obsession with white spice is a modern phenomenon thanks to evolved teks giving us purer results these days.
