Hey everyone, I have already searched on Google but have not yet found all the answers I seek.
I read somewhere that some Australian Acacia species can be poisonous, My question is would the Phyllodes and twigs off any tree that could be mistaken for a Maidenii be poisonous if I were to attempt an A/B extraction?
Doing a Pyhllode extraction does it matter if the Phyllodes are dead/dry or freah, also what would give more promising results?
I never had seen anything mentioning flowers in extractions from Acacias, so would scraping the flowers into the extraction be pointless?
There are plenty of trees around where I am, I have NO INTENTION of removing the root bark or bark off the trunk, but thought if I were to use the twigs and phyllodes off living trees that it would not harm the tree too much (I don't mean raid a tree, but a stem full of phyllodes per tree, there are dozens where I am side by side. There are also a few fallen branches dead and fresh which I assume the outer bark would be worth taking?
It has just turned Spring and I have read mixed opinions regarding potency with Seasons & Flowering
can anyone add anything to that?
I have attached some Pics, they are off 4 or 5 different trees, possible I.D would be good, I dont know how to position the Photos or label them so if one were to I.D them could one say what number pic they are referring to. These photos were taken in the last 3 days

Also I would like to know whether these extractions would work for Phyllodes and twigs?

There is Acacia leiocalyx which looks similar (not poisenous). Madenii flowers are almost white/cream colour and generally flower in Spring, the seed pods are very curly and twisted. Those golden yellow flowers are not from a madenii that I'm aware of. As I see you already got some use the leaves and stem bark (get a knive and scrap it off). Also look where your native habitats are and cross reference google images.

Then use my recent thread to help you powder it up other wise it wont work (needs less surface area to penetrate and extract etc)

As for poisons:

Cyanogenic glycosides[edit]
Nineteen different species of Acacia in the Americas contain cyanogenic glycosides, which, if exposed to an enzyme which specifically splits glycosides, can release hydrogen cyanide in the "leaves".[27] This sometimes results in the poisoning death of livestock.

If fresh plant material spontaneously produces 200 ppm or more HCN, then it is potentially toxic. This corresponds to about 7.5 μmol HCN per gram of fresh plant material. It turns out that, if acacia "leaves" lack the specific glycoside-splitting enzyme, then they may be less toxic than otherwise, even those containing significant quantities of cyanic glycosides.[28]

Some Acacia species containing cyanogens include Acacia erioloba, A. cunninghamii, A. obtusifolia, A. sieberiana, and A. sieberiana var. woodii[29]

Whether they carry into the solvent, i don't know but probably not seeing as people extract from A. obtusifolia and that is listed as poisenous
