^ I didn't engage in either sex or masturbation, and, up to a point, that helped. However, when I did break the abstinence (not because of some tremendous urge, but because I felt it was time to do so), that also helped me advance on my own path.
I have recently abstained from food for a few days (first time fasting, and I wasn't planning for it either -it just happened), and it was great -will do it again.

complete sexual abstinence just isn't possible for me, but I mean that on a physical level. I have to ejaculate regularly or else my prostate just doesn't feel right. Maybe because there is an accumulation of toxins, and my body wants to get rid of it. If it wasn't for that I could go without sex pretty long just as long as I'm busy with other exciting things (mostly music).

^There is definitely some level of discomfort associated with it: how much is too much only you can decide. Me, I figured that if I entered territory where the retention was damaging to the body, the body would take care of business while I wasn't paying attention -it's not like I tie my dick in a knot before I go to sleep. However, that never happened.

Would you say that masturbation for the sake of making your prostate feel right is something you grudgingly do because you have to? In other words, do you still have a relatively normal sex drive? No, not at all. I enjoy having sex and masturbating! What I tried to say was that sometimes I'm so occupied with other things that I just forget about sex. On several occasions my body (prostate) has reminded me of the fact that a week has gone by and there is a serious pressure build-up! So if I consider going abstinent for, let's say 1 year, I'm sure I would feel pretty miserable on a physical level.

Check out kundalini yoga or internal martial arts like Qi Gong.

I know that my energy levels are pretty low most of the time but I never thought about a direct relation between the feeling in my lower body and the the energy being stuck there. I am practicing hatha yoga, but I'm not sure about the difference between kundalini yoga. I will check that out

After about 8 days without my body will clean itself; wet dreams: not much one can do about that. "Wet dreams is God giving you a handjob." --Adam Carolla Fear, belief, love phenomena that determined the course of our lives. These forces begin long before we are born and continue after we perish. We cross and recross our old paths like figure skaters; our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb, we are bound to others. Past and present. And by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future. ---David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas
