Greetings

This thread is about DMT for psychotherapy.
I know that psychedelics can be used to allow people to voice deeper happenings easier and confront times that hinder their current pursuit for a full life. But I haven't seen anything regarding fears.MDMA for PTSD I know about.

A few months back I had an oral DMT experience which is in a thread(link just now).It was so powerful it scared the things I fear in life away, even very deep ones.I used to fear public toilets, sounds dumb but I was extremely scared of them.So much so that at hostel I would walk 20 mins everyday to go and use a toilet that no one is near or uses.I was also afraid of dogs from my earliest recollections. My mom says I was bitten by a dog as a baby, but I can't recall.

In my trip I was so scared that I realised there are much scaryier things in this world than a dog or a toilet. It also gave me a reason to no longer be afraid, like when one says o well I survived cancer so a flu is nothing.I didn't confront any fears at the time.

I, myself have overcome the experience and 'claim the rewards' so to speak.Do other people never overcome it to the point where it makes reality worse for them.Sometimes I get scared while tripping that I might have a similar bad time. But I push it aside.

Will making somebody have an extremely powerful experince force them to face realisations and feel feelings that will make one look on all worldly experiences as trivial, hence their fears and other problems.

I know this idea is strange and most probly wrought with errors. It still interests me and I would love others opinions.
Psychedelics aren't for everymind.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

I definitely believe DMT can help with fears. Having an experience as extreme as a DMT trip, shows you that your worries aren't as large in the scope of everything. I also think taking a leap of faith into a DMT trip, can help getting over fear of the unknown.

It can also have the opposite effect.

The problem is you never know what your going to get. A friend of mine, one who has been going through depression and issues for a fairly long time, showed interest in dosing. He basically had zero drug experiences aside from a daily habit with pot. I figured him using dmt in such a state may or may not be a good idea but he insisted so i started him out low. He continued to dose periodically slowly working his way up to 25mg.

My point is, it had no real effect on him except he saw stuff, which was cool but he didnt see any meanings or anything. Even though he was in a very negative state of mind on a day to day basis his experiences were just "fun". He would laugh and come back feeling good and express how none of it made sense, "just a bunch of crazy stuff".

It had no lasting effects whatsoever.

Another friend with ptsd freaked out and walked home less than a minute after inhaling a very small dose. He has no interest in trying it again.

Smoked DMT is too short acting, one dose have very profound and intense experiences. However oral DMT can give you time to think and contemplate. Maybe even smoked DMT with a maoi will work for this purpose.

it might, but it might not - as anrchy pointed out. Sadly there is no recipe for this kind of thing, no guarantee. I guess our minds and the constructs they build are too complex to be affected the same way in every case. There's a good chance that DMT can facilitate said changes, but there's no way to know before hand, no matter how high you dose or how much you even want it, how you prepare or whatever.

Even the same person might find that it worked once, but a few years later with similar problems it just doesn't.

I like the word facilitate.Drugs are the facilitators sometimes you join the party, sometimes not. However with an experienced psychonaught or psychotherapist ,there must be ways to guide the experience to general goal.Like what Mr Timothy Leary did with his LSD resort.

I do think that oral, pharma is always healing, but it may not be the way one expects the healing.

I do not think one can guide, one as provider or sitter. This is like psychoanalysis, you observe your mind, thoughts and, the answer comes, sometimes even after the journey.

As I can see from reports of people working with shamans, they relie too much on shaman to guide, IMO, this is wrong, on pharma one is under very suggestible state of mind, so "guideing" concept is strange, because it may implying guideing towards what is desirable at a given moment in society. For instance in the 70's psychologist Naranjo was, guideing one patient not to be gay...

I dont know if i exactly agree with that, i think it just takes the right intent, set, setting and experience with DMT. As an example, a close friend of mine has been depressed and very empty after her boyfriend committed suicide. Its been 2 months and she is still very understandably broken up over it, but she made a real difference during one of our DMT sessions. During her trip she had a very spiritual connection with her boyfriend and they even talked out in hyperspace. When she came back to earth she was crying tears of joy, saying that was the first time she didnt feel empty in months. Even now a few weeks later she still has a very positive outlook and i can tell she is doing alot better.

Was all this from one DMT trip? No. This was our 2nd session with DMT that week and we blasted off around 3-4 times each session. Thats why i believe the more experience with DMT can help you learn more and take back more from your trips.
