I cut the middle out of it because there was a big rotten spot, planted the top piece in a different pot (which has stayed the same size all summer so far, but still looks good), and left the bottom piece to grow on its own. A seperate piece has formed on that bottom piece, with the bottom of that piece being solid green, on the side of the top...

What will become of this??

I live in a humid-subtropical climate, great for b. caapi, maybe not for San Pedro...

Concur with dg - it is totally happy - this is how a damaged (chopped-off in this case) cactus regenerates a growing point and continues to grow new tissue - totally normal.
