I had an experience a couple years ago utilizing S. Divinorum in the form of a vodka based tincture, where you would swish the medicine around in your mouth and spit it once desired effects were reached.

I am definitely NOT a fan of smoking SD as the plant spirit is very aggressive and hateful when you burn Her. She has more of a cosmic trickster benign seductress vibe when you imbibe her through the mucosa.

Anywho, I am making a solid batch of tincture. I had a huge salad bowl full of freshly picked leaf (sang to and picked with love! I cleaned the weeds off of the plants too, trying to build a relationship with the spirits of my medicines) and crushed it all to bits once it was dry enough. This was jammed into a quart mason jar and filled with 750ml 80 proof vodka. I am letting it sit for several days, prodding it down and shaking it up every morning, and keeping it in a brown bag in a cupboard to avoid light degradation until I find a suitable dark glass container to keep the end result medicine in.

Anybody have any critiques or experiences using a similar method? My one experience with SD Vodka was absolutely incredible. It is still definitely not a PLEASANT trip, but far from terrifying like the vibrational hellspace reached through smoking. I felt it was a very powerful medicine for use in the shamanic path, and was able to remove stuck energy patterns from my field with my hands. I am very excited about the use of this medicine in a ceremonial setting with drums/rattles and singing sacred song to guide the experience.

Smoking plain leaf for me has been amazing. Never laughed so hard in my life and got pretty deep insights into reality. She showed me that even inanimate objects are conscious but not aware.

Why don't you hear reports of the DMT spirit getting aggressive and pissed off when you smoke changa? Doesn't make sense dude.

the spirit informed me of this directly.... showed me that was the reason so many people had difficult experiences with the smoking of her. and its not just the smoking but subjecting her to chemicals and unnatural techniques to pull her out of her natural state. I don't rly believe anything but my own experience Smile The DMT spirit(s) are very much so okay with being extracted and burned, although from my own experience the ayahuasca route is definitely more appreciated by myself and the spirits I communicate with Smile

Soaking a bunch of leaf in vodka is really not a great approach, for a couple reasons:

1.) A 40% ethanol solution is a poor solvent for salvinorin A. Very high proof ethanol (90%+) is a passable solvent, though still not ideal... but the solubility decreases dramatically as the concentration of ethanol decreases. Salvinorin A is nearly insoluble in water, and there's more water than ethanol in vodka.
2.) Vodka is a great solvent for chlorophyll and other non-psychoactive chemicals that you probably don't want to concentrate into your tincture.

It sounds like you've already begun making your tincture though. Hopefully it works out for you. In the future, I think a better approach would be to do a quick extraction with cold acetone. If you're going for tincture, you can skip all the purification steps (unless you want to purify enough to know the precise concentration of salvinorin A in your tincture), since a little of the impurities appears to help with buccal bioavailability.

thank you for the response. I was kind of aware that vodka was a less than stellar extractative, but I am leaving this location soon and wanted to do something quick. Also the SD plant was just growing on a friends property and has been incredibly abundant every time I have come by to love her up and collect some leaves. So efficiency /total alkaloidal yield is not my main concern. I have tried some of this particular methods end product in the past, and it was very strong medicine for me. Next time I will probably do something a little more labor intensive/efficient. Thank you for chiming in! Bless

The reason that many people have difficult experiences with Salvia is because they have lousy set and setting and take massive overdoses. Any other psychedelic taken in a similar context is likely to produce equally horrific results.

(Try about 5X your normal dose of ayahuasca and see how the spirits treat you then!)

Agreed. Sorry Gaia, nothing personal...just that you could be getting angry spirits confused with doses stronger than you can handle.

Salvorian A .. is Salvorian A..regardless if its chewed or smoked...
Making a tincure ..90 proof or higher alcohol is ok for extraction if leafe is powdered finely enough..
There is a period of time where you must let it sit alowing the leafe particles settle to bottom..
Then after several seperations.. then evaporate the extracted alcaloids... leaving later producing a concintrate...that can be used for tincure ..or further refinement into pure Salvorian A...
As far as experiances...mind set is very important....Salvia can be very rewarding if one replaces the fear factor with respect ..and relaxing music!

I have no intention of telling anybody spirits are angry with them in particular, just my personal .02 on the SD lady. She is mostly infuriated over her transition from a secret shamanic medicine practiced with intention to the media youtube sensation she thankfully is becoming less of... Maybe her intellect decided to make these experiences difficult in order to "shake the bogeys off the trail" or clear out Her own psychic space? I do know in the time of my negative experiences I was a less than suitable resident of sallyspace Smile

As always in these extraphysical realms, its all subjective to the experiencer <3

Can't say I've ever heard of Salvorian...

Powdering the leaf is, at best, completely unnecessary. The desired terpenoids are localized on the leaf surface. Powdering the leaf is actually somewhat counterproductive, as you're giving the solvent greater access to parts of the plant which you really don't want to extract.

there is, for me a deeper spiritual elegance to using salvia divinorum as a quid compared to smoking. I use the plant only a couple of times a year at this point in my life, almost always as a quid, when in the past I smoked it often. Someday I will probly work with smoked extracts again..but generally there is something more spiritual and guiding for me about quids. It is slowed down and sometimes seems like it presents itself in a different context that way. More true visions for me.

Acetone is the way to go for extracting.
Long live the unwoke.
