Have any of you ever encountered faeries/faries/fae folk/etc in your psychedelic journeys? Traditional shamanism is very much concerned with establishing contact with the myriad spirits that inhabit our universe, so it doesn't seem that unusual for someone to encounter fae folk, as described in northern and western European folklore, or otherwise. I seem to remember that in Pinchbeck's Breaking Open the Head he relates that at one point he is very alarmed because he smokes DMT expecting to encounter the "machine elves", but instead just has a very realistic vision of an actual elf that appears in the jungle.

I have a few experiences of my own with this matter. Back in early 2009, when I went to Peru to drink ayahuasca, during one of the rituals I saw, standing in the corner, these figures that looked like a cross between hobbits and amazonian natives, scantily clad, with bones in their noses and bowl cuts. I asked one of the shamans about it afterwards and he said something along the lines of, "Yeah, sometimes when you walk around the jungle they stick to you and then come out with the ayahuasca", and said they are neither good nor bad.

My other experience was last winter with a mushroom trip. I was laying in bed with CEVs, listening to medieval chants, and I asked the spirits of the mushrooms, which had been picked locally, if there were any faeries associated with those specific mushrooms. In reply, the abstract visuals I was seeing started "dancing" to the music, as though the fae had brought to the medicine a mischievous joy.
