Hi folks, basically I'm doing a straight up what we know vsauce-esc video. Would anyone like to put forward some points for me to cover, that they feel are under exposed in current DMT media coverage?
I just what to make sure I cover as much as I can and from as wide a perspective as possible. No personal experiences just wiki facts and stats. A "What is DMT?" video.

Cheers. X

I don't think its a good idea personally, but I guess it depends on the intentions of the video. I guess what I'm saying is would this contribute to the current fad like attitude about dmt full of sensational info or will it help people to truly better understand dmt.

I don't know you or how much experience you have. But I would suggest if you are going to make a video about this type of thing you should have a really good understanding of the thing itself.

Please don't make a video about this, it doesn't need more publicity than it already gets.

People should read DMT the Spirit Molecule (not that abhorrent movie, the book!) or visit a forum like this if they want to know about the molecule.

I know you probably love DMT as much as us, but there are better places to get info than YT, like this forum! Smile

This is the exact reason I want to do a video. I feel that the current easily available "Educational" videos, that go brandishing about "facts" like "DMT is made in the pineal" and a lot of other such redundant or unproven claims is very detrimental.
I have the uppermost reverence for DMT and the perspectives my relationship with it has given my experience. I'm not going into experience or interpretations of the deeper meaning of being a fractal ecology of minds. nothing at all subjective.
It's something I feel fundamentally compelled to do, and thats why I'd like a collaborative effort. The last thing I wish to produce is a pro DMT Video that would encourage people to take it with any frivolity. It's not something I'd ever want to push on people.
What do you wish was being said in the face of the currant hype? How is the situation to be best expressed in a non-bias and honest way? X

What sort of things do you want it to say? Do you have a rough framework or outline of what points/data/studies/history/pharmacology/rumor etc that you want it to cover? It is difficult to give constructive feedback when we don't know much besides the fact that you want to make a video.

Some other relevant threads you might look into

While Id agree that ol DMT doesnt need any further youtube videos drawing in masses of dolts who think its recreational and is the next big thing, as they pack their friends bong with 200mg of spice to achieve internet hero status... however if its done properly, it could be informative and prevent said dolt from packing his friends bowl with 200mg.

But, me personally, Id just let it be. Make a video of a cat or puppy or something. People love cats and puppies.

I'm curious to see your script. As much as many if us might sort of cringe at the thought of a DMT promotional video, anything that successfully counteracts some of the misinformed hype could have a positive place in the mix.

I'm sorry, i also think it's not a good idea, DMT is getting enough attention already, the people who know DMT or are interested in it will seek their own info, the people that don't could be against drugs, all drugs, and no matter what you say, nothing will ever sound positive about it to most of them, it's just another drug for them to vilify, one they previously didn't know existed.

The more attention DMT gets the harder anti-drug people will make it for us to obtain it.

DMT containing material used to be much easier to obtain, a lot has changed since the popularization of DMT, it's not a good thing, i understand you are very excited about it, but i'd try to keep that to myself as much as possible, some people don't want to hear about it, and will not be openminded about the positive effects of it at all.For them drugs are drugs, no matter how many positive abilities you assign to it.

I think if done properly this could actually be a good idea, despite the bad reputation youtube-info has. I agree that speaking about it from the drug angle is probably not going to win a lot of fans, at least not if you limit yourself to that.

But, if you start out speaking about its natural abundance, it's chemical properties, the mystery behind it (why do animals and plants create it?) and its properties of binding to receptors in the brain... thus creating strange effects on consciousness, including visions and altered perceptions, experiences compared to near death experiences and out of body experiences... then speak about ritual use and contemporary use, scientific findings etc. you could make a mini-documentary about it, neither glorifying it, nor bashing it, and definitely NOT going into esoteric stuff about stargates and the next level of consciousness... You could explain your opinion about its positive effects on those that use it within a context which includes integration and self-reflection. You could explain that almost world wide prohibition on this substance is in place, but that scientific reports deem it quite high on the safety-scale (along with other psychedelics) and that probably prohibion is in place due to how these substances are vastly misunderstood. I would definitely not go into "the government wants to keep this from you because it will open your mind" or other conspiracies as that will just discredit the work.

If you put up a rough outline I will try to give some more input.

This is my angle exactly, I'm working on the draft as we speak. I'd just like to add that I hold this forums opinions in high regard, so if the majority of individuals are against the final script then I'm open to the idea being vetoed. X

For some time now I've thought it would be a good idea to release a video like this under the header of the Nexian. When I encountered the motto "Psychedelic Information You Can Trust" I saw the immediate potential for us to expand our reach and become a more well known go-to source for accurate information in this highly taboo and misunderstood area of exploration.

Of course it would need to be handled in a very delicate manner with a lot of input from the more knowledgeable members of this community and an abundance of solid references and resources. I do see a project like this having a lot of potential to correct misinformation. Let's face it, in this day and age most people would prefer to watch a 5 minute youtube clip than to read through a 5 page FAQ. If you really want to reach the masses with a message, the most accessible route is likely to be the most effective.

I feel like the public is being done a disservice with all this endogenous DMT hype and in spreading all these unfounded speculations as fact. So what is DMT really doing in human metabolism? Considering its only ever been found in nanomolar concentrations (that is millionths of a mg to the layman), the honest answer is: probably not that all that much. Maybe it is released in large bursts from the pineal during certain peak experiences, but I wouldn't hold my breath in following that line of speculation. Everyone is so busy focusing on these red herring reasoning paths that they miss the fact that the brain produces a wide array of psychedelic and psychoactive tryptamines and beta carbolines endogenously. I personally find the fact that our experience seems to be largely modulated by a complex endohuasca type of process much more fascinating than whether or not chanting hare krishna for 7 days in a dark room will increase the nanomolar concentrations of DMT in your nervous system to micromolar concentrations or what have you.

I suppose it's a symptom of our society that we tend to take such a reductionist approach. Our nervous systems are so incredibly intricate and complex it's a fallacy to try to boil down any subjective experience to a single chemical compound. The beauty of psychopharmacology is in how everything works together to create a kind of chaotic yet harmonious balance.

Anyway I'll stop ranting and get to main point which is I support this project and am happy to lend any assistance I can in helping create tools to spread accurate education.

I say if you want to make your own, fully intending to help scrub away this dabbling attitude towards 'evidence' people seem to have on youtube, go for it. Yeah I'm talking about the pineal stuff etc.

On a bigger scale and more in line with what dreamer said, I think that there needs to be much more rock solid info and myth dispelling effort from the whole community, especially in the form of video. I really do feel like we should be the first, most legit, most rock solid source for all things DMT, in all media formats. We already have the largest wealth of info on DMT and that's no exaggeration.

This is perfect! That's just what I'm after, when I first started treading down this path it was a long time before I found the nexus. As a result I feel I was taken in by a lot of possibly dangerous speculation. If there's anything we as a community can do to make the information that the average nexian has a common understanding we should do it. I feel we have a duty so the inevitably younger and naiver people being exposed to this now have the right perspectives to approach the situation maturely and safely. X

Interesting timing too... There is also a psychedelic harm-reduction video project under discussion right now.

In my other life I do a lot of online marketing and promotion, and it's sad but true that there are a large number of people that can only really be reached with five minute videos. I think it's inevitable that the Nexus would create a library of educational videos to accompany the Nexian project. We have a lot of members with skills: video editing and production, computer modeling, motion graphics, music, sound engineering, design, etc; we've got it all here among our members. The big hurdle (I've found, anyway) is that any given project needs an individual to champion that project and keep it rolling, maintain the work threads, keep it on schedule, etc. if you want to be part of making this video a reality and feel that you have the spare time and energy to be a sort of behind-the-scenes organizer for it, that makes the whole thing more realistic. So let's start with that script, see if we can get a consensus on a final edit, and then take it from there.

I'm no experienced person in regards to DMT. Only having tried ayahuasca literally yesterday for the first time. Also only have smoked DMT twice as well.

If the video is to be made it should definitely center toward info and dispelling myths. Also much as to how to approach it in a respectable, cautious, safe, and incremental way. I do support the nexus doing this collaborative effort being the frontier of honest and sincere, factual and concise, well produced and delivered material on DMT.

After having been subjected to the raw power of DMT both ways of most common ingestion I'd have to say one shouldn't take lightly the desire to undertake such a tremendously transformative experience. I had researched for years before the DMT actually made it to me. Research inspired originally by marijuana and mushrooms. I was like so what else might be out there?

There's no taking back the possible coming undone of your being if you choose to do DMT. I loved it but others might not be ready, willing, and understanding of what that actually means. The video must emphasize the importance that you must be absolutely sure you want to do that to yourself and be mentally capable of dealing with the complications that could arise from taking a substance of such magnitude. I mean upon arrival back yesterday I was gracious I had a good smooth time but was also like thank you Creator I'm still alive! Rather intense an unexpected that's for sure.

Peace

Taking into account whats been put forward so far, I'm going to take a few more days to refine what's being said with the first draft. Just so we've got a solid foundation to work from, I think it's best for me to mull over some bits before we start to pull it apart.
As for making something like this work I'd be more than up for driving the thing. I'm not alone on this at my end I have two friends working with me and one is a 3D video artist. We're all very committed to the idea. X

Right peeps here's the first draft, I've tried to squeeze all the important bits down into a youtube video format.

"NN-Dimethyltryptamine or DMT for short is a psychedelic entheogen, it's a chemical substance used in religious,
shamanic and spiritual practices all around the world. It's part of the tryptamine family of monoamine alkaloids and It's one of the most powerful yet mysterious psychedelics in existence.

DMT resembles the basic structure of neurotransmitters such as Serotonin also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine and when ingested it's capable crossing the human blood-brain-barrier allowing it to dramatically affect human consciousness.

The pharmacology of DMT is similar to that of other well-known psychedelics. It affects the receptor sites for serotonin in much the same way that LSD, psilocybin, and mescaline do. Serotonin receptors are widespread throughout the body and can be found in blood vessels, muscle, glands, skin and your brain.

Some would say to classify DMT as just a drug would be doing it a great injustice, as DMT seems to invoke a boundary dissolving experience so profound that it raises many questions regarding the nature of reality and our place within it.
It is important to realize at this point, that the experiences one has on DMT may be very difficult for some to integrate. It's very common practice, that persons seeking a DMT experience, will spend a year or more doing research in preparation before even coming into contact with the physical substance.
Changes in dose and method of administration can drastically affect DMT's subjective effects and these can range from short-lived, milder psychedelic states, to powerful immersive experiences. It's because of the intensity of these experiences that an element of danger is starkly present for the inexperienced user. If you find yourself in a state where you can no-longer perceive your body, how do you make sure your body remains safe? This is the first step of many that must be taken to assure the safe use of any psychedelic compound.

In 1931 Canadian chemist Richard Helmuth Fredrick Manske (1901–1977) was first to synthesize DMT in a lab and
its discovery as a natural product is generally credited to Brazilian chemist and microbiologist Oswaldo Gonçalves de Lima (1908–1989)
In 1946, Gonçalves de Lima isolated an alkaloid he named nigerine from the root bark of Mimosa hostilis.
However it was later shown in a case review by Jonathan Ott that formula for nigerine as determined by Gonçalves de Lima could only match a partial or impure form of DMT.
It wasn't untill 1959, when Gonçalves de Lima provided American chemists a sample of Mimosa hostilis roots, that DMT was unequivocally identified in this plant material.

From 1955 DMT has been found in at least fifty plant species belonging to ten
different families, and in at least four animal species, including one gorgonian (Gorgonians are closely related to coral) and three mammalian species (Humans included).

At this point its a nice chance to debunk the pineal gland claim that is a fairly rampant meme these days.
Presently (when this video was published) there is no evidence to support the claim that DMT is produced in the pineal or the brain. This is a speculation by Dr Rick Strassman (of spirit molecule fame) due to his own interests in the pineal gland. So far in humans, the key enzymes necessary for DMT synthesis have not been found in the brain, so it seems more likely that it's produced elsewhere in the body. Some recent research has shown that these enzymes
are present in the pineal gland of primates, although nothing is really proven yet, so we must avoid stating speculation as fact before the data comes in.
The equally as rife is the connection of DMT and dreams, and the idea that DMT is released when we die, both are also speculation with no real evidence to back them up. One thing we do know is true, is that DMT is produced in the human body, we're just not sure where. It's present at all times but only in trace amounts and the reason for this is still unknown."

Let me know what you think. X

Excellent, bravo.

I can't say youve swayed my opinion on actually putting the video out there, but it's very well structured and conveys information simply and concisely.

Just make sure if you do put it out there you include some form of disclaimer of some kind of course, that the information is strictly for educational purposes...they haven't made education illegal yet, have they? Anyway...

Also, make the title something that will likely generate enough attention so that people who do actually search to learn will learn the right way and find your video first, in the hopes that they hopefully dont first find the video of the black fellow claiming that the best way to smoke DMT is out of a plastic soda bottle with burn marks all over the plastic Thumbs down
