After freezer precipitation, when evaporating the remaining Naphtha, (or when evaporating Naphtha in general), is it alright to evaporate from a metal dish. There is a large metal dish that I could use with this, (large surface area).

Second should one ever worry about having the temperature to hot, in the aqueous stage or when removed to Naphtha, to where it could destroy your dmt and effect your yield.

Third, if you want to accelerate your evaporation, and you heat up your solution, will this cause some dmt to evaporate as well and hurt your Yeild.

Fourth, just a idea I had,
Say you have a certain amount of Naphtha thouroughly saturated with dmt. And instead of freezer precip. or letting it all evaporate at once, what if you just allowed your saturated Naphtha to drop on one spot very slowly, allowing each drop to evaporate before the next one dropped. Once you've drop all your Naphtha wouldn't your dmt crystals have formed very defined and large in that one spot? Has anyone ever done this?

>Metal dish
I would advise against using metal. The naptha solvent may strip some of the finish off the metal. Also the metal is more difficult to scrape, could end up with metal shavings in your spice. Use glass

>Temperature of basified solution
It is unlikely that the DMT will degrade at any normal room temperature. If the bark solution or naptha is warmer, it will pull the DMT more easily into the solvent. The downside to this is it will also pull Plant oils and Fats from the bark more easily.

Doubtful. Sometimes I use blow dryer to accelerate evaporation. Very stinky and bad for environment. Better to evaporate halfway and Freeze precip.

>4th
Unsure of your hypothetical question. Freeze precipitation is best if you want pure crystals. Evaporation will leave all the plant fats and oils behind.
It wastes solvent and is bad for the environment and your health.

Thank you for your reply,
Your answer to my first question was about what I expected,
The second, as for the increased temperature pulling fats and oils, my approach is to let the AQ sit in a hot water bath and get the temp between 110 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit, the Naphtha at around / the same if not a little hotter, go ahead and pull every bit of dmt even if the heat pulls impurity because I can always crystallize later. Does this sound logical?

Third, this has been a significant problem, once I have freezer precipitated, I pour all my solvent through a coffee filter, most of the dmt stays in the bottom of the dish, but from that point it seems I can't leave the tray of to dry because the little Naphtha always warms up and either redisolves the day or it turns into the paste and is a mess.

Hey Justkeepcalm,

How big is the container you are using to freeze precipitate? I typically just use small 8 oz. ball jars. As you said, a fair amount of the dmt will stay in the bottom of the dish when you pour the solvent through a coffee filter. Depending on the amount of DMT, I would do one of the following:

- Large amount of dmt: Swish the least amount of warm naptha as possible around the container until all of the dmt has dissolved back into the solvent, then pour this liquid into a bowl/container that can easily be scraped after the solvent has evaporated.
- Small amount of dmt: Same method as stated above, but then pour the liquid into a shot glass, which is easy to scrape with a spoon once evaporated.

Re-x when you have gathered your crystals. Let me know if this didn't help.

Thanks Entho,

Your suggestion of re-dissolving the dmt in naphtha is one I have considered myself, the only fear I have is of yield loss. It is my understanding that if you were to say dissolve a gram of dmt, when retrieve your dmt from your solvent whether it be by freeze precipitation or whatever means you use, you should get back all of your dmt, and any loss is due less impurities. But in my experience whenever I have my dmt in the container after the Naphtha is poured off, and the dmt gets dissolved in the small amount of Naphtha still in it, (as I stated previously my problem was). I can't get the same amount back. Put it in the freezer for a day, take it out still looks like I lost over 50%.
