I recently read the following quote which was very incoherent with my idea of enlightenment:

“Enlightenment is a destructive process. It has nothing to do with becoming better or being happier. Enlightenment is the crumbling away of untruth. It's seeing through the facade of pretence. It's the complete eradication of everything we imagined to be true.”

- Adyashanti

I beg to differ. I don't believe it is a destructive thing at all, nor do I believe it is "constructive" in today's society standards. But I do believe it is the most constructive way to self-realization to be free from the sheep herd, and to me that is what really counts.

I think it is what you make of it. It isn't necessarily "good" or "bad" it just is you having found yourself in the most profound way possible, so in turn it is something that can be used to make great positive changes in your life. So I guess it is mostly a constructive thing.

Do you guys agree or disagree with this quote? Why?

I honestly agree with the quote. To me enlightenment is all about the realization that we have no inherent enduring self-nature. So to remove all these things in my mind that I define as "me" is indeed a destructive process by definition. Destructive tends to be generally negatively connotative, so maybe that's why it don't sit well with you?

I would prefer to just sit, just eat, and just be without having to pass judgement on each action I take as good bad or indifferent. "I" don't exist in reality. Smile
