Good point. There's not much point trying to present rational data to someone who tells you "I don't care about facts, I don't care if something has been well-established since before I was born, this is my BELIEF dangit, and I'm stickin' to it"

Hey bacchus, that isn't very nice.

This troll has messed with me on other forums... First post is a troll post? That isn't a very good way to start out at the Nexus.

I KNOW some things (mostly about plants), I also BELIEVE some things, I enjoy stating both. Get over it. I didn't call anybody a "fag" or anything and I certainly don't think I said anything offensive, so get off my ass.

I don't answer 5 or more PMs a day answering noob questions about botanicals to take shit from some troll with one post, so screw you dude.

Did you see my Salvia divinorum thread? How about my posts on Cacti? "Lost Peyotes"? Teotzlcoatl's Links? My Ethnobotanicals thread? My Iboga thread? What about all the cacti and other botanicals which I have identified for people (often with the help of Phlux)? How about how I post in every single thread with the word "cacti" in the title? Have you seen any of those threads, you troll asshole?

Now let's stay on topic please and try to be nice to each other. I don't think any of my post warranted that kind of troll response (especially by somebody with one post, if Entropymancer or let's say, 69ron, had said the same thing in a nicer way, I would NOT have responded as harshly.)

So back to talking about "Gay Marriage" please.

I find it somewhat shocking that you first come with agressive attacks against a person, and then in the next sentence ask people to be nice against eachother. How can you justify that? I can see how you might get offended by what Bacchus wrote, it was indeed not nice, but that does in no way justify what you just wrote. Please 'Coatl, for both your own good and for the good of the lovely people here, think twice before you let your out-of-control ego drop bombs like this.

Im sorry i've never posted anything useful, informative or insightful; from the 1 post Bacchus has made, neither has he/she.

Ok, ok, ok.... that is enough. I should have probably just ignored him (thanks for the support BoKuDen).

Let's just go back to topic and not ruin this nice thread.

hrmm maybe we should be discussing spice here - not gayness - honestly, what the hell, how is it any one members business what any other members sexual preference is ? i just simply don't see why it needs to be discussed. It seems conversations on religion, homosexuality, etc always end up in arguments, i avoid those conversations like the plague now.

We continue arguing simply because dismissing someone's post/opinions on the grounds that it is an "18 year old immature girl" is basically an ad hominem argument, therefore fallacious and invalid.

Sort of not taking you seriously because you're a first time poster. Quite silly, right?

Sure I can. I do NOT think people are "programmed from birth" to be homosexual.

So you do not think that people can be programmed from birth to be men or women either?

Watch out your answer; what can make you a man or a woman is the exact thing that can also make you a homosexual.

You gotta be careful 'Coatl or you could become misinformed and this might tarnish the richness of your ride. It seems closed-minded to make up your mind about something and then seek out only opinions from authorities you agree with.

Scientists are human beings carrying biases just like anyone else. Sometimes we are aware of these biases and sometimes we are not. Science depends critically on peer review and constant external criticism and revision. This is the only way to begin to overcome human bias.

The clear consensus from research into homosexuality is that there is a strong genetic component. Research in this field has moved beyond this debate to understand the genetic mechanisms involved. There are even mutant fruit flies who are clearly born gay so genetic mechanisms of homosexuality may be hundreds of million years old.
Perhaps it is a (perfectly natural and productive) response to population density as has been speculated above.

Completly agree Very happy

Wow. The hypocrisy here is incredible. And insightful. Please think through your replies before posting, Coatl.

Most of the hypocrisy in your post is self-evident. But to expose a further layer, I find it crazy that you're dragging up what's gone on at other forums. Particularly because the one time I had contact with you on another forum, it was to try to explain to you that your behaviour in calling people 'fags', 'n*ggers' and 'paedos' wasn't acceptable.

So then, what is your opinion on people who are born with the "wrong body parts"? i.e. A 'woman' born with a penis, no breasts, etc... who feels she is a female trapped in a male's body.

If you aren't programmed to be man or women - does that mean that your environment and culture decides whether or not you have a penis and are a man or have a vagina and are a female? I'm not quite following this idea.

Alright, sorry should have elaborated more.

I think most of being female (or male), the way men and women act differently (besides having breasts or penises or w/e) is cultural and social, not genetic.

I don't think little girls like to play with barbie because their is something in their genetics that tells them to like dolls.

Remember.... this is what I THINK, this is not my area of knowledge what-so-ever.

The blank slate theory was essentially thrown out 30 years ago. Genetics is real. The genetics of sex determination is very well understood.

Some things we are taught. Like, the fear of homosexuals. You may have been taught this. A propensity toward fear and intolerance may have a genetic componenet, idk. I think it is a negative thing because people who are burdened with fear and intolerance may miss out on some rewarding relationships. If the fearfull, intolerant people have any kind of authority it will make life worse for people around them.

I always wonder if those opposing homosexuality want to effectively criminalize behavior. I'm not talking about anyone on this site, rather more along the lines of fundamentalist religious zealots and the like. If they think it is so moral, so wrong, so horrible - why not lobby to criminalize it? 'The gay war' - fueled my miseducation, fear, intolerance, propoganda, hate, the list goes on and on... sounds a lot like the drug war, doesn't it?

30 years? Um... no.... it was brought up by some famous enlightenment thinker (whose name escapes me at the moment.)

Hmm.... interesting... if my genetics can make me like women (or the same sex) then could they make me.... let's say... hate black people (just an example)?
