Hey guys, bad news. My mom got injured very badly 2 days ago and im feeling terrible. Dont feel the need to reply or read this whole thing.

It started on Tuesday when I got home from school, im 18 freshman in college taking summer courses (organic chemistry Pleased ) and my moms stuff was at home but she was gone. She left her phone and car and purse. Then my dad called me and told me to come to the hospital mom fell and hit her head. When I got there I saw my neighbor leaving the hospital, when she came up to me and said, do you know what happenend? I said no. She told me that my mom was walking and then someone was walking their dog while driving their car and they came behind my mom and the leash tripped her very hard. My neighbor told me my mom was confused and vomitted then had a seizure, she was then sedated and intubated then sent to the OR. There was a bleed in her brain so they relieved intracranial pressure with a drain in the skull. Her skull was fractured.

Now she lays in bed still sedated, today her breathing tubes were taken off because she was using her lungs and the tubes are uncomfortable. She seems like she is in a lot of pain whenever she comes to. She hasnt spoken or squeezed her hand when the doctors tell her to. She opens her eyes and looks right through me, she cant understand anything. She pulls at her wires and tries to get up but has restraints because she cant touch the tube connected to the drain in her brain. She moans like a zombie flails around when shes not sedated enough. My dad has slept in her room 2/3 nights on a chair and i spend most of my day at the hospital.

I just want her to know I love her. I want her to be able to remember me, and love me. I want my mom back just how she was, like this never even happenend. It was so fast. So random. It could've happenend to any pedestrian and shouldnt have happenend. My little brother is 13 and he cant sleep. I hate holding my mom down and telling her to relax, when shes making pained faces and moaning. Im so worried about her. Her heart rate from 38-96 in minutes today they got an ekg out. I hope when I wake up tomorrow my mom is ok.
We are surprisingly similar.

I'm wishing you and your family the best <3

I witnessed a friend have a similar head injury and it was really hard seeing him in the hospital like that, so I can't imagine how it'd feel if it was my mother. It took a while and was very bad at first, as he had to relearn a lot over the next few months, but despite all that he eventually made a full recovery.

Keep your little brother close, as he'll really need you right now

I'm so sorry you had to go through this, sending prayers her way.

Keep faith. Human beings are remarkably hard to kill, and while brain trauma can be really scary, we are incredibly plastic beings. If her basic life support systems are working correctly (and it sounds like they are), she has a good chance of making a good recovery. It may be a hard road, especially if there's a period of relearning normal functioning, but with love and support, I have no doubt she could do it.

Keep us updated on how she's doing.

Blessings

Thanks everyone for all the prayers! She is making an amazing recovery and is already starting to talk. She recognizes me and can understand what I am saying. She is also eating and drinking a little. Things are going to be ok Smile

Glad to hear she is getting better!

I know the feeling of wondering whether or not a loved one is going to make it out of something like that. My best friend fell off a cliff a while back and had some brain trauma that sounds similar to your moms situation. They induced coma in him and he was out for almost a week but he ended up making an amazing recovery and is the same old person he used to be. Humans really are amazing.

Good luck, and I hope everything continues to heal and she is back at home soon!!

I'm so glad to hear that! From what you told about her seizure and the confused state that followed, I understand your concern "will I ever get my mom back?". Well luckily you will. ^^
Perhaps the blow caused her brain to swell and bleed, putting it under pressure; causing the disoriented, confused behaviour. When her brain was drained the pressure dropped back to normal and the confusion ceased it seems.

May the idiot dogwalker that is responsible for this soon get their Karma.
