Last time I took pharma, I had no sex in 10 days nor I masturbated, and the first part of the trip was full of sexual energy? I didn't like it at all, it was draining me. Of course when it kicked in I didn't have sexual overtone.

I was thinking of the past and remembered that before the trip I would have sex or masturbate, and the experience was free of sexual tone.

I am a man, so if I understand correctly, man body feels relaxed after sex, when woman body gets more charged with sexual energy, so for woman it may be good to abstain, not sure about this.

This comes at odds with traditional recommendation to abstain.

Overall what is your experience, better after abstaining or not.

Or in other words, have you had any benefit of abstinence?

It depends on the person I guess. I personally benefit in no way what-so-ever from abstinence but to each their own.

It makes sense that if you have sexual energy pent up in your body, you would experience it under the influence. What with psychedelics being mind-manifesting and all that.

Personally, I've never understood ritualized abstinence. Sex is a totally natural, human thing to do and I see no problem with it. I would much rather abstain from processed, unnatural foods than a natural (and enjoyable) afternoon with my partner.

It's interesting that DMT is often sexual in nature, since the closest analogue I regularly experience is psilocin, and that has the same effect on my libido as a bucket of cold water.

I usually masturbate once every day, i never abstain from jerkin it and have had amazing (and sexual) Ayahuasca/Pharmahuasca experiences. In fact, i've felt things on Ayahuasca that sex doesn't even come close to matching... pure orgasmic sexual bliss.

A few months ago I would have thought it makes no difference. But I decided not to masturbate and haven't had sex for at least 2 months now and I feel like a different person. So much more manlier and outgoing (I'm normally really introverted) I think there's definitely something to it...be this sexual energy or whatever...

Yes. Any kind of sexual stimulation.

Well, to not have sex, pretty much you just don't "do" the act of "sex."

Similarly, to not masturbate, you want to "avoid" the act of "masturbation."


But seriously, I wouldn't put too much stock in it. If it's something that appeals to you great. If not, why would you do it? Because someone else believes in it? I think it's important to utilize things you think would be helpful or beneficial, rather than seeking to emulate someone else's personal/cultural belief systems.

Thanks SB! I realized I put "way" when I meant "why" my bad there. Ten days from now I'll be doing aya for the first time. The reason I ask is that my wife loves sex all the time basically. I don't think I'll be able to refrain from sex in the days until then. I suppose its OK I can't is what you meant.

My experience is opposite, it is actually better to have sex before Aya. It removes the sexual energy that may interfere with a journey. The body is simply more relaxed after sex... If sexual energy is high, it actual create tension that takes a journey to a wrong place, at least in the first part.

It has been my experience that I do feel a lot more engaged and uplifted if I have not had any form of sexual release for a few days, or a week, before using either mushrooms or aya. I don't imagine that there is a negative result that comes from sexual activity prior to aya, but it might be fruitful to try and abstain anyway?

I understand the position of jox as well, I can foresee a trip becoming in/directly sexual and the space occupied to become somewhat uncomfortable or hectic. To address this issue, I have often both abstained from sexual release and saw to it that I immerse myself in physical activity or artistic endeavors the day of, and before, the time of the trip (be they Aya or mushroom). Of course, I sort of treat my aya journeys like a holiday and view the days prior to the dose to be a holiday as well. So as a result there are few things pressuring me aside from the task of development.

Lets explore the spiritual side behind that abstinence argument.
The spirit of Ayahuasca (and the others) allegedly don't like the 'smell' of sex.
It has not much to do with actual smell.

Some say the spirits stay away if they sense that you had sex recently. Others say it might allure spirits you don't want to have around.

There is also the factor of denying yourself something, which is basicly a sacrifice.
In a ritual context you sacrifice something you would do to the spirits by not doing it.

So for example, you don't eat salt, or fat, nor do you have sex, this changes your body/mind system and this change is dedicated/sacrificed to the spirits. The energy you would have had is going to the spirits instead.

The usual deal is, that you give first, and than you'll get something back.

I have been told that by denying your body some essentials, it creates stress and a buildup of energy. Ayahuasca then uses/releases this energy for healing. The more you build up, the more you get back.

Than there is the tantric/ buddhist angle.

Shooting armies of sperm into the world cost alot.
Desire is distracting.
Don't you need your focus and energy somewhere else?
You won't see into subtle realms if your mind is occupied with strong magnetic emotional forces.

The energies that you buildup are, IMO, essential for the Ayahuasca experience. When you sacrifice something that you enjoy, whether it be, salts, fatty foods, even other stimulates, or sex, your telling the spirits that you are taking the experience seriously. In my experiences, when you give, you receive, like when I abstained from sexual stimulation I was given a Heart orgasm, is the best way I can explain it, as a thank you for my energy that I built up from withholding. But it's really up to you whether or not you decide to abstain. Just remember be honest with the spirits they can see through your lies.
