I germinated 10 jurema seeds and they are already showing 2mm shoots. I have witnessed the invasive mimosa absolutely thrive in the right conditions here in Fl. as well as a viable seller in local nurseries. They refuse to die and will burst a cheap plastic pot when root-lock is achieved. My plan is to start the germ. in a 1gal. pot. The weedy species here will lock a 1gal. pot in under a season with heavy sun and nutes. Once the M. Hostilis has neared root-lock in the 1gal. pot, it will be removed, cuttings taken and the roots will be agitated and placed in a new 3gal. pot. He will finish the natural season and be fed a heavy nute schedule through winter. Summer of the next season water regiments will begin without nutes. Towards the end of summer I want to abandon it completely and harvest the 3gal root-ball.
This is nontraditional, I know but my means and location limit my experiments. It needs much work like figuring perpetual clones or seedlings for constant harvests.

I will post pictures as i go in this thread. I have germ. pics with new shoots!. Will up tonight.

I have a similar project going. I'm growing Mimosas in a passive hydro system that is similar to a dutch bucket. It's more of a self watering/wicking system where the roots will end up in the water like a DWC system.

The next one I set up will be a dutch bucket system with a pump for recirculating the nutrient solution. I intend to have a deeper reservoir than a standard dutch bucket so the system is fail safe in the event of a power failure or pump problems ect.

Rather than harvesting the entire rootball I plan on trimming the roots periodically for a perpetual harvest.

Have you had any success with cloning Mimosa ?

As far as I'm aware they are very tricky to clone from aerial parts of the plant, root cuttings are known to be more successful.

What germination method did you use? I've had lots of issues myself germinating Mimosa Hostillis

@Muskogee HerbmanI read so many conflicting posts that i decided to go with putting them in near boiling spring water and let them soak in it for about 3 hours then transferred to seedling dome still in paer towels. I put a boiling cup of spring water in the dome with germs every day. Its day two and 5 of 10 are sprouting. It worked for me.

Hieronymous, That sounds amazing. I swear i thought of a ginseng hydro kit much like that but never got any good leads. I would love some sound links or advice. Thanks for the reply.

They do thrive in this climate pretty well syntheogen, i'm one state away from you in Al. I have 3 Hostilis and 2 Ophthalmocentra plants in the ground and they are doing really good after only planting them in the ground last month. Of course though, they're about a year old, started em' all from seed except for one Hostilis which i bought, and had em' under fluorescent lighting till last month when i planted em' in the ground and they've been loving it outside Smile

I'm hoping to one day also grow Arenosa if i can just find some seeds that aren't on STS (cuz i don't really have anything to trade).

But yeah, they love this climate, and i love that they love it.

Edit: Btw, they love plant food. I use Expert all purpose plant food that has 15% nitrogen and potash with 30% phosphate. I've noticed that if the Hostilis's leaves start yellowing and dropping off, i give them some plant food and they perk right on up and grow like crazy lol.
