AKA: Baikal Scullcap, Chinese Scullcap. (Quite different from american scullcap!)

Some time ago I was reading up on flavonoid content of various traditional chinese herbs and this one in particular caught my attention.

wikipedia lists a number of major flavonoids that it contains:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oroxylin_A
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baicalein
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wogonin etc...

Was also told by jamie that it is a very good source of melatonin.

So I managed to acquire some good quality dried root,

2 pieces about 3-5 centimeters long were chewed and swallowed and about an hour later (on a full stomach) effects began to manifest that felt very much like smoked harmalas.

Dont know how it works but this is definitely worthy of looking into.

The root is also very tasty IMO Very happy

edit: also should mention i smoked a good amount of catnip shortly before ingesting the roots. I dont know how much that could be a factor considering the complex bioactivity of these flavonoids.

Interresting, but isn't Melatonine unable to cross the blood brain barrier?

I have chronic Insomnia so for me seeking out this root and trying it certainly seems worthwhile. Thanks for sharing Smile

Yeah, SKA, im not sure in what way it is a source of melatonin.

Also, correct me if i'm wrong, but do we not have receptors elsewhere for melatonin?
