As the name suggests I consider myself an explorer. An explorer of my own consciousness, both through the use of dreams and mind-expanding substances. I love hallucingogens and have experimented with shrooms and LSD many times, though I have never tried DMT before. WHich brings me to why I'm here, I recently decided that I am going to attempt an extraction, which is perfect because I'm a Biochemistry major so I can finally use what I'm learning in a 'practical' sense! Anyway I've been lurking here for a while and think it's a rgeat community, so I made an account. I have some questions about A/B extraction that will have to wait until I get promoted I guess.

Oh, well in that case my question is in regards to the A/B tek, and sorry it's kind of long.
Is it really that important to worry about the exact amounts of acid or base you are adding, or is the pH what you really want, regardless of how much acid/base it takes to get there. And, following that, what are the ideal pH's, I've heard 2 for the acid stage and 13 for the base, but I'd like second opinions! My organic chemistry professor is actually the one who recommended a pH of 2 or less for the acid stage, though he only knew that I was attempting to break apart the cellulose and lignin in root bark to release the contents within each dead cell, he did not know the specific plant or reason. I have seen many of you here say that muriatic acid is overkill, but according to my professor you would need a stronger acid for the best yield, is there any danger over losing yield because the pH gets too low?

Exact amounts of acid or base, or even the type of acid or base, doesn't matter. The pH is what matters. I shoot for a pH of 4 for the acid phase, and 12 for the base.

Freebase n,n-DMT has a pKa of 8.68, and I believe that means as long as you're 1 or 2 pH above or below that, 90%+ of the DMT should be in the phase you want it to be in. Going lower shouldn't hurt your yields because the salt form of DMT is very stable.

As far as breaking down the cellulose, it's probably better to mechanically grind/powder down your root bark and increase the surface area that the acid solvent contacts your material. Alkaloids in the acid phase will easily diffuse across the cell membranes.

Which A/B tech you using? and what are you extracting from?
Mine was from ACRB, I also heard a ph of 4 with vinigar works really well then raise the polar substance after the bath and soak to ph14 with your Hydroxide or whatever your using. but hey correct me if its not the right numb tho... seemed to work for me i dont have exact numb but i extracted prolly around 3-4 grams of some magic with that off of 250g.

I'm going to be extracting from MHRB using my own tek, basically just combining the best aspects (imo) from a bunch of different teks.

There is a freebase and pH calculator (.xls file) available to download in the Advanced/Enhanced Chemistry section. Just pop in the pH you want to look at and it will tell you what percentage of a variety of chemicals will be either freebased or salted.

I tried going for the MHRB but nobody had it an waayyy too expensive on the places that did have it, so, just went for th ACRB, worked great, but i have not had experience extracting from mimosa, im still on my first batch and been pulling all week long lol
