Hi guys i have two questions to ask of you today, the first is DMT soluble in ethanol in its freebase, salt or perhaps both forms.Secondly does ethanol have a measureable ph that can be adjusted.

Freebase is soluble in ethanol, salt it not, hence the reason people use FASA and FASI methods.

Ethanol should have a neutral pH. But if youve used it to grab freebased DMT then it is going to be slightly basic.

Freebase dmt is very soluble in ethanol.. different salt forms of dmt may be somewhat soluble in ethanol, specially if wet. But better play with freebase if you want it to dissolve in ethanol well. Here`s a dmt ethanol extraction I did some tests with:

Absolute ethanol does not have a pH since you need water presence to measure pH. Why do you ask?

endlessness i ask simply because ethanol is a solvent i have easy access to, im in New Zealand and here it is legal to own and use a still for personal use and my still produces approx 3.5 litres of approx 93% from 21 litres of mash, and im considering doing side by side extractions using ethanol and water to see which one is more effective in extracting from the plant material.Im hoping to extract the same yeild from less pulls with ethanol than having to do 3 or more acidic boils with water. I have previously seen your post that you reffered to and im toying with the idea of trying that but after doing the second extraction with ethanol im wondering if i could reduce ethanol till saturation then add excess basified water, effectively doing a dual solvent xtlisation and see if DMT freebase will crash out since its not soluble in water. What do you think, could that work.

Hmmmm, good question im not sure. How will you judge it has reached `saturation`? With alcohol is not the same as with naphtha when you see neat crystals forming, usually the crystals tend to not form till its nearly all evaporated IME. And if you already evaporated so far down, might as well evaporate the rest. Also it might be that the DMT will stay dissolved in the bit of alcohol and won`t crash out if you don`t evaporate all the way... But don`t let my words discourage you, best is if you make a test with small amounts and see what you get... And dont forget to let us know the results either way!

It is relevant to note that 50% ethanol extracts dmt very efficiently, as good as in the presence of acid and boiling. See this thread and this post.

What you propose as a route of extraction is, in theory at least, sound. You just need to try it and see if it works. With or without using ethanol for an extraction, there may always be plant compounds that may stop from dmt freebase from crashing out of the water.
