[img:6a1fb62b78]http://www.pureinsight.org/pi/pi_images/20057/2005_7_3_AreCell-phones--ss.jpg[/img:6a1fb62b78] [size=11:6a1fb62b78]Cellular phones have become an essential part of our lives today. Most people can't live without these devices and really can't remember what life was like before their creation. Everyone is encouraged to have one of these devices, even our children. Cell phone towers are being erected right and left with little or no objection from the public. Most people assume that because cell phones are in general use, they must be safe. Any independent research showing the potential dangers is quickly discredited. Are there reasons to be concerned? In August 2000, Dr. Christopher Neuman, a neurologist, filed a suit alleging that his prolonged cell phone use was responsible for the brain tumor that was slowly killing him. He accused the cell phone industry of knowing that these gadgets were unsafe and deliberately misleading the public into thinking that cell phones are harmless. Neuman demanded 0 million from seven cell phone manufacturers and cellular service providers. The malignant tumor in question was discovered in March 1998 behind Neuman's right ear, the same ear that he used when on his cell phone. He claimed that he used a wireless phone several times daily between '92 and '98. This case became a catalyst responsible for general mistrust of cellular technology. Several similar cases have been brought to the courts, but like Neuman's, were defeated. Of course, many studies were done to show the public that what happened to Neuman and others were anomalies, and that there was no correlation between cell phone use and cancer of any kind. In an effort to combat the cellular backlash, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that there was no evidence that radiation from cell phones posed a health risk. However, the FDA also concluded that there was no proof that cell phones are risk free, either. The above position and a few studies portraying cell phones in a positive light were all that was needed to quickly diffuse public tension, and the Neuman case was ultimately forgotten. Some studies have been done before and after the Neuman case showing that cell phones emit a radio frequency (RF) that may be harmful to frequent users. The RF that cell phones emit is very similar to those in microwave ovens. Microwave (MW) energy oscillates at millions of cycles per second. The Journal of Cellular Biochemistry states that these frequencies cause cancer and other ailments by interfering with cellular DNA. Between 20 and 80 percent of the RF given off by cell phones is absorbed into the user's head. The amount of RF absorbed depends on how close the antenna is to the user, the duration of time the user is exposed to the RF and the power level of the cell phone. The longer one is exposed to RF, the better chance one has of becoming ill. How many people are aware of this information? Not many, because findings of this nature are all but ignored by the mainstream media. Many years ago, there was a debate about the safety of microwave ovens, which has since dissipated. Imagine what a microwave oven does to food, and imagine what a cell phone may be doing to your brain. It is safe to say that most people will not find the thought too appealing.[/size:6a1fb62b78]

Do you think it is dangerous? My antenna by the microphone on my phone, will I get mouth cancer? Maybe we should stop using cell phones till we really know what's going on. I took a physics class a few years ago, and my teach was telling us how we really don't know the effects of cell phones, that the waves can go through brick walls and scientists claim they don't move through organic material. He said he would never use a cell phone because there's no solid evidence that it IS safe. You know, at one time we thought cigarettes were safe, we've only had cell phones for a few decades at the longest.

But guys also keep their phones in their pockets very close to their privat parts. Maybe they cellphones are playing a role in genetic mutation of humans in that way by affcting sperm production. Pushing the DNA to it's next level. ––––––

I thought that it was common knowledge that cell phones lead to cancer? Didn't think anything was being covered up. People just didn't care all that much that there was *something* else that caused cancer.

IMO no. But I'm no scientist. If it were to have any effect on your health, I imagine for an great effect to take place you would have to be talking on the phone for hours at a time.

At first thought i'd think not.. but i can see the concern there are many types of radiation, but the two main ones in concern here are 'ionising' and 'non-ionising' radiation. The term ionising radiation is in specific regarding high-energy waves that can enter cells and change the cells chemical properties via ionisation. Specifically, the cell's DNA is highly susceptable to ionising radiation and, once changed, the cell may live in a new way and reproduce uncontrollably - no good. Electromagnetic fields and radio waves (both mobile phones and microwave ovens are RF devices) come under non-ionising radiation. Non-ionising radiation does have enough energy to move things around in a cell but not enough to change a cell chemically [jerk]and hence of course simply will not cause cancer[/jerk]. Anyway to contradict that, UV falls under non-ionising radiation and is a known cause of skin cancer.. I guess it's a fine line. Using your mobile phone isn't like sitting infront of an x-ray machine for hours. But, if someone is weak or extra-susceptable to being fucked with, live next to a mobile phone tower, and call their long-distance girlfriend for a few hours every night then perhaps they might be in a bad position. I don't think microwave ovens pose a risk though, unless your oven door is broken, has massive leaks, and you like to sit by your oven listening to your food slow cook for a long time, many times a day, for many years.. but i really don't know How about CRT computer screens and televisions?

I want to bump this thread since the health effects of wireless equipment have been raising some questions lately.
Were I live is a small country with a lot of people, ie the Netherlands. Lately they have started to use a 4G network around here. Also in busses and trains you have wifi and in the rush hours trains can be packed with people most of them using their phones.
Almost parallel to the implementation of this 4G thing and wifi in trains and busses, I've noticed that I get serious headaches and nausea in these trains and the more people there are, the more nauseau.
Now I read this thing about ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. But could there be something much more simpler about it? Ie a cell doing it's job and have it's own EM field, then getting serious problems with the pulse like and frequency spread on the gigahertz spectrum, disrupting it's processes and in turn leading to malfunction?
I read and watched some documentaries and from there I gathered studies have been done that indicate the cells react on exposure to it.
Light you can feel as warmth and just a tone higher in the spectrum than wireless. So why are so many people so adamant about it being non-affecting living tissues?
Usually I get the kind of impression that people don't care at all to know if there's something going on. I don't use wifi or mobile phone anymore. Bye bye, but the joke is that 15 years ago my friends and I made jokes on having a microwave in your pocket and being owned by useless information. Though I don't resent the technology, the way and scale it's being used right now is choking.
Please some discussion on this.

Quote:https://en.wikipedia.org...lectromagnetic_radiation The electromagnetic spectrum, in order of increasing frequency and decreasing wavelength, can be divided, for practical engineering purposes, into radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays and gamma rays. Quote:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_radiationThermal radiation is electromagnetic radiation generated by the thermal motion of charged particles in matter. All matter with a temperature greater than absolute zero emits thermal radiation. When the temperature of the body is greater than absolute zero, interatomic collisions cause the kinetic energy of the atoms or molecules to change. Quote:https://en.wikipedia.org...Specific_absorption_rateSpecific absorption rate (SAR) is a measure of the rate at which energy is absorbed by the human body when exposed to a radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic field; although, it can also refer to absorption of other forms of energy by tissue, including ultrasound.[1] It is defined as the power absorbed per mass of tissue and has units of watts per kilogram (W/kg).[2] So your phone basically heats up your body tissue. So does the radiator when you lean against it on a cold winter day. Or the cup of warm coffee you put in your stomach. But on a much larger scale.

Look at the study. They've placed the sperm in petri dishes directly under a laptop for 4h - 3cm away @ 25°C. * When I place a laptop on my lap, the laptop is 11 cm away from my testes. * There's a lot of energy absorbing tissue between the laptop and my sperm, also my circulatory system keeps the temperature at 37°C From a first glance, the study looks unnatural to me. May others chip in with their opinion.

slow wave electromagnetic radiation (cell phones, microwaves etc) has been classified as a possible carcinogen by health canada. Some of the products in that same classification have been removed from store shelves and are no longer allowed to be sold as food additives etc..yet somehow slow wave electromagnetic radiation devices like smart meters are approved to be mandatory on peoples homes etc..the hippocracy and contradiction is astounding and probly serves to just further confuse people. Follow the money, it usually leads to the source. Long live the unwoke.

There is no firm evidence (presently) that mobile phones cause cancer; one flawed study did suggest an association between one type of brain cancer in women (acoustic neuroma- a benign growth pretty much always) but the methodology of the study was questionable. I stopped smoking cell phones along time ago, just in case. I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.
