These past few weeks i've been taking kava kava everyday in hefty doses, and feel much more emotionally healthy and clear-minded, but when i wake up the next day, wow am i floored from the hangover. I can barely move for the first few minutes after getting up. It's not necessarily an unhealthy or negative feeling, it's just heavy! Big grin

Does anyone else use kava kava here? Do you experience this?

I love the feeling it provides, it's really good for social situations in my experience, or really any situation Pleased The sleep you get is great as well, perfect for anytype of insomnia. It doesn't feel addicting but yet, i can't help myself from scooping into the jar of bee mellow day after day.

As i was typing this i finished off the remainder of the 4oz jar after only two weeks. Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up Good stuff.

Kava kava is toxic to the liver and should be taken only in moderation.

Other known health problems with heavy kava use:

Quote:
Kava users were more likely to complain of poor health and a "puffy" face, and were more likely to have a typical scaly rash, and slightly-increased patellar reflexes. Very heavy users of kava were 20% underweight and their levels of gamma-glutamyl transferase were increased greatly. Albumin, plasma protein, urea and bilirubin levels were decreased in kava users, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were increased. Kava users were more likely to show haematuria, and to have urine which was poorly acidified and of low specific gravity. The use of kava was also associated with an increased red-cell volume, with a decreased platelet volume and with a decreased lymphocyte count. Shortness of breath in kava users was associated with tall P waves on a resting electrocardiogram, which provided suggestive evidence of pulmonary hypertension. In common with other Aboriginal communities, there was evidence of decreased lung volumes, a high carriage rate of hepatitis B surface antigen, and of other morbidity that was unrelated to the use of kava. On the basis of these findings, there is a strong rationale for urgent social action to improve health in Aboriginal communities and, in particular, to reduce the consumption of kava and to improve the nutritional status of kava users.

Hmm, thanks for posting that info. I had read that there were complications with the liver with heavy usage, but that the reasoning behind it was the extracts/powders contained the upper part of the plant and not the roots and turned out to be innaccurate info. Either way i probably should heed your advice and slow down. Razz

Two weeks on two weeks off should be good.

I've never felt anything from kava kava. Maybe I just didn't take enough.

What dosage are you taking?

Before trying this kava and honey stuff (bee mellow) i had never had any success with it either. I tried the extract pills before with no effect I'm not sure how much kava is in the 4oz jar it comes in but the recommended dosage for it says a tablespoon, i've been taking more or less of that to good effect. I like to just dip my finger in the jar little by little until i'm feeling good.

You didn't. I'm fairly certain you broke a rule by mentioning the source to begin with. Please edit your original post and subsequent posts and remove all of the seller discussion and the link. Then please read The Attitude Page.

Done. I read through The Attitude but didn't think that kava kava applied. Thanks for letting me know.

Bee mellow kava hmm.. will have to try that. Stuff is pretty unpalatable powder form but the only way SWIM has gotten good effects. Kava is pretty wonderful, like a peaceful drunk intoxication. As long as it is not done too often!Thumbs up

It actually tastes pretty good, probably the reason i couldn't help myself from indulging every day, good thing it's gone now. It is very wonderful, almost euphoric for me.

I should add that the hangover only lasts for about 10 minutes then dissapates to normal after i get moving. It's just a heavy drowsiness feeling.

Why would kava kava mixed with honey be so much more effective?

I've made mine by kneading up to 6 grams vanuatu kava kava extract with warm coconut oil, letting it sit for 20 minutes, then shaking it up with chocolate coconut milk and egg white for 5 minutes.

Doesn't do anything but numb the hell out of my mouth.Laughing

Kava(piper methysticum), acts differently for everyone. To my knowledge, Kava is not toxic to the liver or any other organ within the human body. Many of the reports came from those mixing Kava with Alcohol which creates a toxic conversion, more readily powerful beverage and is a prominent issue in Polynesia. Also, other reports included those taking Kava by the extracted capsules, which is the most potent form of taking the plant which can lead to misuse.

A water based infusion is the traditional way of drinking Kava. Many polynesian islanders would create a beverage using coconut shells. There are no reported deaths on the correct, pure, moderated use of Kava. This plant has been observed throughout over 2,000 years of human use with no recorded deaths from its use alone. Though, many people develop skin irritations(such as jaundice) from long term use or allergic reactions from short term use. Short term use is linked to many health benefits including reduced stress, anxiety, nervousness, anger, improved memory, increased/enhanced communication-attention, and also used for insomnia and pain management. Kava was and still is used as a sacred sacrament on the polynesian islands to welcome new-comers and to promote a well-balanced community. Islanders would also take Kava as a way to work for longer periods of time during the day and again in the evening as a ritual event. Many ancient tribes used Kava to speak with 'the gods.'

Here is a traditional Kava bowl specifically used for ritualized divination, loosening social conformity for political/ceremonial events and work-related use. Many polynesians would also mix Kava with Tobacco smoking.

Below are PubMed-Wikipedia links indicating published reports on various mechanisms from Kava use as well as the active metabolised components 'kavalactones' for your own interest in this incredible plant. Also, a recommended book reading/review.

From my personal experiences with this plant ally; have been quite powerful, sacred, medicinal and recreational. Kava pleases the mind, increases social behavior, promotes relaxation and energy simultaneously, and calms/opens the heart/body. I mix Kava with lecithin and warm water for about an hour stirring often. I've had great, mindful, 'flying-levitating' and healthy experiences from this procedure with not a single 'hangover' from 1 or 6 tbsp. Actually, nothing but beneficial afterglow effects.

Be responsible.

Thumbs up

It might be the source or may not be, the place i got it from is highly regarded and well reviewed by many people online, and was the reason i decided to give it another try. It's the vanuatu variety but i think there are several sub-varieties of vanuatu kava. It may also be that your stomach doesn't absorb it well, with the bee mellow honey stuff, you can just let it dissolve in your mouth and increase absorption, it's pretty cheap as well. And no telling if the extraction process of certain sources remove some of the active pricipals or something. I'm not sure if the bee mellow is an extract or not, it might be a dehydrated water extract, or just plain root powder mixed with honey.

Seems like alot there. That's unfortunate you haven't had a real kava kava experience.
