'Coatl, anyone

Can someone answer what is the best way to take a salvia cutting from an already established plant?

What special care needs to be taken with the cutting to get it to root?

I find they root real easily in soil, perlite,or just water. Mist them and they get roots all over the place above the soil. Here'a guide page of where to cut etc. although you don't have to follow it to a T if the plant is healthy salvia can be forgiving.

O it's super easy! Just slice off a piece of the plant and stick it in water (with about half the cutting above water and half below). Make sure the cutting you take has a good growing tip. Then after it sits in the water a few weeks, it will develop roots.... once you see the little white roots, just stick it in some dirt! The Salvia cutting guide posted by Kannamate is pretty good.

I'm not completely sure. I think Salvia divinorum is self-fertile.

traveler - ur salvia look like an impatient plant Smile , beautifully green tho.

and coatl - yeah sorry bout that earlier - was in a bit of a strange mood - anyway - swim has a salvia - has had it like a year or more and it is pathetic - its been chopped down to ground level twice and atm it has just a few healthy leaves -
swim noticed its best to grow it under flouros at his place - any reccomendations on lightling - cfl if possible - atm its directly under a 15w cfl and looking better than it has in months.

swim is getting another 5 well established plants in the next 2 weeks and wants a nice home for them to be ready and waiting.

they grow near perfect for me under a 4 ft fluorescent fixture with 40 watt T12 daylight bulbs I'm sure 32 watt T8's would do the job just as well.

I urge EVERYONE to write a letter to their local/state/national government urging them to keep Salvia divinroum (and other botanicals) LEGAL for people 18+!!!

You don't have to us your real name and it doesn't matter where you live, even if your not in the U.S., just do it!!! SEND A LETTER! A few letters sent in Maine caused the state government there to ban Salvia only for people 18 and under! This seems reasonable to me!!!

Your posts about growing your own are always inspiring 'Coatl! Always appreciated - in fact they really make me want to try raising some Salvia cuttings. It doesn't need much light, does it? My apartment is facing northwest, not good for cacti or cannabis Sad

Phytochemical Analysis of various Salvia divinorum strains

It appears that Salvia divinorum cul. "Wasson and Hofmann" is the most potent of the strains analyzed.

After seeing Epling’s paper, Bunnell traveled to Los Angeles to meet with him and to give him plants to grow at UCLA. An accession log of the UCLA Botanical Garden (now the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden) notes that a living specimen of S. divinorum entered the collection in 1963. The original accession number is UCLA 63-104. Bunnell also gave a specimen to Alexander Shulgin, who at that time was working for Dow Chemical in Walnut Creek, California. Bunnell’s plants were later propagated and shared with other botanical gardens and botanists, and those plants were further propagated. This strain, which should correctly be called the 'Bunnell' strain, was the first to become available commercially, and it remains the most common. Certainly it is the most widespread strain in cultivation today.

Ok why have I never heard of this "Bunnell" clone???

There have been reports that the Salvia divinorum "Wasson and Hofmann" strain is the most potent.
