What is the shelf life of Acacia confusa root bark? How long will the bark retain its potency without degrading assuming proper storage?

The only thing that I can find is that shredded bark will last for up to 10 years, but this is from a source that I don't completely trust. I assume that powdered bark will degrade more quickly than shredded bark.

Can anyone answer these questions, preferably from experience?

It will last for years in the freezer.

I'm curious too, what if one for one reason or another, couldn't put it in a freezer? Especially powdered ACRB in my case.

I have heard anecdotal evidence of members on the Nexus having MHRB stored in a Ziploc bag in their closet for many years, and supposedly the active alkaloids did not degrade to any noticeable degree. I don't imagine ACRB would be any different.

I have kept freebase DMT in an air-tight vial at room temperature for about three years and there was no noticeable change in appearance, potency, or effects. Considering the fact that DMT occurs naturally as one of its salts, and those salts are protected from light and airflow to some degree since they are contained in the plant material, I would guess that ACRB and MHRB have a shelf-life of at least 10-15 years. I would bet that it's probably even greater than 30 years. This is assuming the plant matter does not get exposed to excessive light, heat, or oxygen for an extended period of time. An air-tight container in a closet/dresser or something like that is probably adequate. Put it in an amber glass air-tight jar, in the freezer, and it would likely last a lifetime.

Powdered bark probably does have a shorter shelf life, but it might not even be significant enough to require consideration.

We could use some more concrete evidence on this matter. Luckily I managed to hoard away a substantial amount of MHRB before it started to become more scarce, which will almost certainly last me a lifetime, so I'll bump this thread on my 95th birthday when I perform TLC analysis on the last bit of it! Not to thread-jack but since were on the topic of storage of acrb, what about whole bark chunks in a vacuum sealed bag, inside a box, in a room thats typically room temperature. Probably indefinitely, yes?

Probably pretty close. I would guess that the shelf life is probably longer than most people would need to store ACRB.

Thanks, that helps relieve my worried mind,at least as as far as that's concerned.

I've been keeping powdered ACRB in a garden shed outside. (!?!) It's at a friends house, since there really is no safe place to store it at mine. I it's not super cold here, since this sample arrived, the temps have been anywhere from 30f to 60f. It's in several layers of plastic, the last couple bring black. So I'm guessing it'll be alright.

Waiting for access to a kitchen I can perform my (not so) nefarious experiment in...we'll see..

That may have been me with the ziplock bag. 50g powdered MHRB kept for ten years in a draw for some of the time then a wardrobe.

I brought it around 2002 or so and didn't really know how to extract it as information was less available. Was weary of using it for an aye brew as there was little in the way of a good dose guide. Kind of forgot about it and fiddled about with aye and cactus for a bit.

Got interested in DMT again around 2012 timbered I had it and found the teks on the nexus. Got just shy of a gram of nice clean xtals from when I finally extracted it :-)

Don't get it wet or leave it out in the sun and it should keep for a good old while.

Yup that sounds like the instance I was referring to! Smile

Keep away from excessive water, heat, light, and I would add airflow to the list, and your rootbark will last quite a long time.

So, would ground root bark last 2 years without degrading, despite its extremely large surface area, if stored airtight and in the dark?

*Edit: I just noticed that this question was answered already. Sorry.

1g would be a 2% yield from 50g of root bark. That is a good yield even considering that ACRB contains NMT along with DMT. But ACRB can supposedly contain as much as 2% DMT alone.

This means that some DMT might have degraded to some extent. Has anyone else ever done anything similar to this, but also extracted from it while it was fresh in order to compare the yields of fresh versus old bark?

Not sure where you got that info from...I highly doubt it was from the Nexus.
Since acrb arrived on the scene, 1-1.5% has been considered max.

NMT may make up the rest of the goo, however.

1.5-2% from MHRB has been consistent but all bark is not equal and content varies.

In my experience with Acacia Confusa root bark/trunk bark, potency varies from tree to tree. The season of harvest may have an effect. I recently read that DMT levels drop in the summer, and the winter. Spring and Fall are the "High" season.
I have zero evidence to back this up.
I'm committed to harvesting ACRB from the same grove in each season, and comparing yields.
Midwinter: late January.
Mid-Spring: mid April
Mid-Summer: mid July
Mid-Fall: middle of October
Anyone have ideas or criticism of this empirical experiment?

You'd probably want to take time of day into account if Phalaris and chacruna are anything to go by (although that's leaf material, of course) - and awareness of recent rainfall would surely be relevant.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

Ammo boxes...genius! Loving this idea.
