Hi folks! I've used the search engine, but I'm having a little trouble finding what I am looking for.

I've recently decided to extract spice from 100g of MHRB. I've reached about 1.6% yield, which I am happy with Smile, but they are yellow xtals, not white. My assumption is that I am letting the NPS sit in the base a little too long and I am pulling too much plant fat out.

Either way, the deed is done. I've tried it, it's lovely! No complaints. I guess I am bored more than anything. I'd like to see it be pretty white. I was browsing through CaptainFuture's thread and thought it would be fun to try to achieve some pretty xtals, myself.

Can anyone provide me with a link that can help guild me how to strip the fats from this soft yellow spice?

Redissolve in naptha, filter thoroughly, freeze precipitate crystals.

That'll cost you some spice, but your crystals should be lovely.

You'd be better served just taking what you have and making some nice changa out of it though. You won't loose spice, it'll be easier to handle and you'll have more control over your experiences.

Blessings

Thanks for the quick reply! For the filter: will a coffee filter be adequate? I am assuming that the oils will cling to the fibers of the coffee filter?

Keep running it through until it is clear?

I've made some changa, don't worry!Smile That's actually my preferred method, so far.

The main reason I want to learn to clean and purify is to have a better chemical understanding. All coffee filters will be rinsed, and residual oils will be dissolved into IPA used to make changa- there should be little waste in the process.

In all reality, after I make the pretty white crystals.... they'll likely end up as changa anyways. It's about learning. Smile

Give this thread a read: Spice Color Purity Fallacy AKA Is Your DMT OK to Smoke ?

If you really want to remove the yellow coloring, I would suggest you look into decolorizing with carbon. Personally, I would just leave it as is. Spice can be 99.9% pure and still retain a yellow color. In my opinion it just really isn't worth losing weight over something as insignificant as color.

That being said, I wouldn't discourage you from trying the carbon color-removal at least once. You can never have too much knowledge or experience! Smile

Excellent! That link was the kind of link I was looking for. I'm semi-computer-challenged when it comes to navigating this world wide web thingy. I see folks getting flamed on other forums for not using the search function. I tried the search function, and found a bunch of posts, but it can be difficult for us noobs to distinguish what is good info and what is not. Thanks!

I think I'll try the purification process this once. That way, At least i can have some experience to offer if someone else asks the same question that I did.

it should be worth noted that there are many experienced members who re-infuse the color back into their x-tals, as they prefer it.

there are reports of white blowing yellow out of the water and vice versa.

personally i have not found sufficient motive to purify any further than a red goo. and with the added weight, who can complain about that?

Well, I did it.

And, I do agree with those who claimed it was hardly worth the effort. Though satisfaction comes from accomplishment, it was likely wasteful. I never ended up using a filter, so luckily I didn't loose any to a coffee filter.

I stood true to my word and have dissolved all left overs into IPA.

Yea I think unless you have a lot of tars or a lot of red goo it's a waste of time.

I was doing it for fun. Smile

I'm going to school for biochemistry, so it's nice to have the practice.

Those crystals look great. You dont need to get it any purer than that. I myself have never tried decolorizing carbon, and will be doing so shortly but if you want white then I hear that carbon is the way to go.
