Just starting my first mushroom grow with some Burma and Puerto Rican strains. Doing 6 Pint jars of Rye, 3 of each strain. Will be used as bulk to spawn to a verm/coir substrate, and then the rest is magic. (that is assuming I don't mess anything up!) Rye has been prepped and sterilized, gettin knocked up in the morning!! Will update with pics if/when I get some mycelium growth Kahdaj attached the following image(s): photo 2.JPG (2,759kb) downloaded 215 time(s). photo 1.JPG (2,178kb) downloaded 216 time(s). photo 3.JPG (2,242kb) downloaded 214 time(s).

The syringe on the far left, Mazatapec, those mushrooms have a very special place in my heart. Those are by far the most visual and "deepest" mushrooms I've ever had. he you can fit more jars in there Good luck and keep us posted on the time of full colonization and then the time to pin so we can compare. Also the yield on the first two flushes from each strain would be nice. Day 13: all jars of Burma have been shaken at approx. 20-30% colonization, first jar pictured is on the second day of recovery and absolutley blowing up. The Puerto Rican strain is colonizing much slower than the Burma, but has very thick rizomorphic growth (Picture #2) Kahdaj attached the following image(s): photo 1 (1).JPG (150kb) downloaded 176 time(s). photo 2 (1).JPG (143kb) downloaded 176 time(s).

Looking great. I love watching my babies grow and the patience is so rewarding. You'll be fruiting in no time. Be careful with the higher temps!

Day 15: 1st jar of Burma (pic 1&2) almost fully colonized, second two jars of Burma (pics 3&4) that were shaken 2 days after the first, have almost caught up in growth!! Incubation temp is now fluctuating between 75 and 81 degrees, enviroment is difficult to control with this northern winter and I'm still learning. Note for the future, multiple strains growing at the same time is going to be more of a hassle when spawning to bulk. I'm excited to say the least, I've only used mushrooms once and had a very mild, but pleasant experience. Thanks for all the kind words and I'll be sure to keep this updated thoroughly Kahdaj attached the following image(s): photo 1 (5).JPG (131kb) downloaded 131 time(s). photo 2 (5).JPG (136kb) downloaded 132 time(s). photo 3 (1).JPG (144kb) downloaded 133 time(s). photo 4 (1).JPG (135kb) downloaded 132 time(s).

Day 17: Picture 1; First jar from left to right. Puerto Rico shaken at 10-15% colonization, on the second day of recovery. Second jar is Puerto Rico shaken a day ago at approx. 15%, third jar is the slow one of the bunch. Picture 2 is all Burma jars at 99%, they will sit for another day or two and then be moved to bulk sub verm/coir. Day 22: All three jars of Burma where distributed to 4 trays of bulk sub (two circle, two square). 2 bulk trays were layered with spawn, while 2 were mixed thoroughly with a top layer of sub, this is to see which method colonizes/fruits better. I also added a second part to this experiment, 10 jars of whole brown rice (5 jars Burma 5 jars PR) will be used to spawn to bulk or possibly as cakes. -1st picture is Puerto Rican jars, each were shaken a day after the other, still have a few days to go. -2nd picture is my Burma spawned to whole brown rice in 1/2 pint jars, day 10 of incubation at 72-82 degrees F. -3rd picture is PR spawned to brown rice, day 10 incubation. Day 23: Quick update, these are both circle trays of Burma on day 3 of incubation. I took a peek at the square trays and they are developing at the same pace. So far it looks like the mix and layer techniques are yielding the same results, but it is still early. Day 26: Picture #1 is Puerto Rico fully colonized, ready to go to sub, will spend a couple days consolidating while the Burma in Picture #2 finishes up, all jars are about 90% colonized. The Burma that was spawned to whole brown rice has much thicker growth than the Burma spawned to rye. Not sure if this is because I omitted the shake on the WBR jars, or if the nutrients in WBR are better for Burma. Picture #3 is a little peek of a Burma tray on Day 6 of incubation. Now I'm getting excited Ho Ho: I'm using a ton of information from different teks I've been reading for weeks. Gonna spend some time using different methods/subs with different strains. Day 40: Quick update, here are two of the WBR cakes on day 10 of fruiting in the SGFC. These were used to get my humidity and mist/fanning schedule dialed in. Just saw pinning yesterday, I birthed them immediately after colonization and I'm guessing that's why they took a little longer to pin. These were dunked for 14 hours in distilled water and rolled in dry verm, then placed on tinfoil on top of approx. 5 inches of perlite, kept at 70-77 degrees F. After a couple days they seemed a tad dry and a lot of the verm had fallen off so I added a little to the tops, and gave them a base of moist verm which helped. Pic 1. the dunk Pic 2. first day after the roll Pic 3. cluster of pins from cake #1 Pic 4. cluster of pins from cake #2 Kahdaj attached the following image(s): photo 1 (2).JPG (116kb) downloaded 49 time(s). photo 2 (2).JPG (190kb) downloaded 49 time(s). photo 1 (1).JPG (164kb) downloaded 49 time(s). photo 2 (1).JPG (176kb) downloaded 49 time(s).

Day 44: Well these babies only have a few days left so I figured I would keep the updates coming. Pictures 1 and 2 are the same cake on days 4 and 5 of fruiting. Pictures 3 and 4 are both cakes this morning during fanning. Quick question for any mushroom growers out there. How can you tell if your mushrooms need more water? Right now I am lightly misting the cakes once or twice a day and fanning 5-7 times.
