Hello fellow travelers!

I have a quick question that I have not been able to find an answer to. Just how far can Naphtha fumes travel? If there is Naphtha being used inside of a house with the windows open and fans pointing out of them blowing on max setting, will neighbors and passers-by be able to smell the fumes? I have heard that it is nearly impossible to smell right outside of an open window, but I don't know about that... I thought I'd ask you guys Very happy

Thanks!

I highly doubt any one would be able to smell naphtha being ventilated from a window unless their head was on the window sill haha.

If anyone asks, just slop some paint on your self and invite them in to help you paint. Theyll run Big grin

Would there be even less of a chance of anyone smelling fumes if I have the fans blowing IN TO the house as opposed to OUT OF?

I would think it would help dissipate some of the naptha fumes prior to ventilation. So yea, i think that would help.

You would really be best off just venting out as opposed to blowing fresh air in. The fumes will just blow around that room of your house unless theres something actually pushing the fumes out a window. Its really not an insane amount of naphtha either, its not like you need gallons and gallons of it. A few hundred mL at most depending on your extraction amount. Most ive ever used for 50g of bark was maybe 250ml (a little over 8oz), if that even.

Just try to isolate it to one room and then just vent from there. No one will question it.

If theres not much wind then the smell can get caught on the breeze in bursts and be smelt down wind. If its windy outside there is slim chance of anyone smelling anything.

About 200 mL of Naphtha will be used at one time, 50 mL at a time in to one glass baking dish.. So, a total of 200 mL Naphtha in one baking dish which will be closed with an airtight lid in between pulls. There will be no evaporation, just straight to the freezer.

If youre not going to be evaporating then you wont have a problem with people smelling ii from outside.

[depending on how much napatha involved]...Napatha fumes are not that strong and will thin out quickly once in air...

But exylene is a diferent story ..it can be smelled much farther away...

if smell is a concern, one could just use vegetable oil as a solvent, and maybe a tiny splash of naphtha/hexane/heptane for a re-x

Or D-limonene. But then you have to read up on FASA/FASI/FASW...

Unless one is evaporating the solvent, the smell really isn't all that strong. I have seen extractions performed in rooms without any ventilation, and the naphtha smell was barely noticeable in the hallway. I certainly do not recommend extracting without ventilation, but I figure it is worth mentioning...

I like HumbleTraveler's idea about asking the neighbors to help paint a shelf! Laughing

well limo has a pungent scent (it's just that oranges aren't a suspicious smell) as well.

but also you can just do the q21q21 salting (add vinegar to solvent, to convert fb to acetate, then add water to the solvent to pull the acetate out of the limo/oil and into the water, then evap the vinegar water), which is considerably easier.

Oh yea, definitely. I meant to include the option of salting with vinegar, but I guess it slipped my mind! Rolling eyes
