I can't quite get my head around the boiling down/reducing part! Options

Hello All,

I am hoping that somebody could chime in and help end my confusion about the reducing/boiling down part of a vine only brew.

A few days ago I boiled up 500g of vine for 9 hours straight; as the materials repeatedly became exposed, I topped up with more water.

After the filtering and boiling down, I was left with 350ml of vine. I calculated this to mean I have 5 x 70ml 'shots' equalling at 100g a shot.

For some reason, I can't quite wrap my head around the concept of having an amount of liquid, boiling it down to a lesser amount, and the potency being the same?

If that is the case, would I then be able to boil it down further - say to 175 ml where each 37.5ml shot will then equal 100g of vine? Could I go all the way down to 5ml/shot?

I am sure this is simple science, but I just don't get it Surprised

I am also curious as to the typical shot size of fellow Nexians?

70mls may be more than I can handle!

What you are doing, is performing a simple extraction with water as the solvent. Just like you pull dmt with say naptha, you are pulling caapi alkaloids with water.

Now, reducing the brew just means, you're getting rid of the solvent (water) ...just like evaporating naptha!

Of course, the potency per amount of brew DOES NOT stay the same. Theoretically, you could boild down that 500g of vine brew to a very thick consistency and make it super potent. Just be aware, that the chances of caramelizing the brew or even burning it are higher the more you reduce.

I think 70ml is doable with a lot of willpower and a bucked nearby (just in case). I usually shoot for 50ml per dose because i find reduced caapi veeery hard to drink.

Can I ask what the danger(s) would be if the brew were to caramelise?

I may well reduce it a bit further as even the smell makes me wretch!

Would it be less foul tasting if I were to add a DMT admixture (chacruna)?

btw it is an old post of yours that tipped the scales for me to begin experimenting with my first brews:

120g caapi only ayahuasca, sediment and all was one of the greatest visionary states I have ever had. It was rough so I haven't done it a second time but it was amazing. I agree that 50g will not be enough most likely for a deep caapi visionary state but if you drink the powder as well it sure will be. Just be ready for a serious purging flush out of both ends eyes and nose. A cleanse like no other.

The visions are like nothing I have ever encountered. Blue glowing webs of light engulfed my hands and legs and moved like tendrils underwater. Auditory hallucinations sounded like I was in a tunnel filled with moths wings buzzing against crystal bowls in a soothing rhythm. Waves of warm emotions spilled into my body and receded leaving behind a new emotion I still can't even out into words. My mind was clear but my racing thoughts had left me many hours before. I felt at peace and proud of myself in a way that I was doing this alone in uncharted waters with no radio to call for rescue. I had only myself and one oar, my past experience to make it to the shore and I paddled one lapping push at a time. "Must keep moving forward".

That was the good parts. The hard parts was I was paralyzed to move. Even reaching for the glass of water next to my head felt like climbing Mt. Everest and if I did move it would potentiate a purge. I purged for hours, each time granting me just a few min escape from the gripping nausea. It was hell and it was heaven all at the same moment in time that seemed to freeze. "Has it been 1 hour or 1 week" is the thought I heard in my head over and over.

When the final warm wave filled me and receded I knew I had reached land and survived in tact. A better stronger person.

Ahhhh...my love for the sacred vine is vast and deep. I only wish more people would take this path but I promise it is not and easy road but worth every bit of energy it will sap from you to survive.

Small bits of stuff which can stick to your throat while drinking. It only worsens the taste to my knowledge. The best way to hlep with it is to chase the brew with something. Minxx suggested a piece of ripe mango. Works perfectly in my experience.

Ah ok, got you. When I last drank Ayahuasca in Peru a couple of years back we were given small pieces of what appeared to be satsuma oranges which MASSIVELY helped to neutralise the taste. Will give mango a try, too. Cheers.

I like 30 mL as a dose myself. It fits neatly into a shotglass and it's not too thick yet. I've reduced further in the past and it starts getting thicker, like cactus syrup, which I find more difficult to drink. My caapi tea is as sweet as honey anyway. It's still gross tasting, but like there's a tablespoon of sugar in the shot.

I find the best chasers (especially to leaf teas like chacruna and chali) have fat in them, which pulls all of the alkaloids and tannins out of your mouth and really cleans it out, so there's no horrible aftertaste. My favorite right now is rinsing the mouth out with and then drinking a little soy milk, and then popping a chewy ginger candy, for the leaf teas. For the caapi tea, just the aftertaste and the soy milk tastes delicious.

Some people over at the Aya boards prefer almond milk, which sounds fantastic, but I'm allergic.
