My friend thinks today is the day they will attempt starting an extraction for the first time ever! They will be using Noman's tek, with an adjustment to the amount of naphtha (.5mL instead of 1mL per gram of MHRB). They just read through several teks again and everything seems old and familiar from reading them so many times They are about to head out for gloves, dust mask [edit: respirator], and goggles. I find if my friend came back in a lab coat it'd be hilarious!

I'll post pics and reports of their efforts here when they report to me the results of any ongoing progress.

My friend said i could use their likeness for an avatar since i'm a digital work of fiction and a concept of a bat and a fly mixed together. So thank you to them for the use of said pixels.

Well, my friend has told me his glass tray with lid is in the freezer. They told me they did 3 pulls as their frustration with using a glass baster was reaching upper limits. My friend also said they almost had an anxiety attack a couple times. One relating to fumes, even though they said the place was well ventilated with open windows and a fan blowing out the nearest one and were wearing a respirator. The other time was just some weird moment they were having thinking of getting caught. They weren't at any risk, but their mind wanders I guess. My friend can be pretty silly, usually easy going, but hates strong smelling chemicals. He did say there were no spills but they wiped the counter tops with vinegar anyway. Is my friend being too paranoid? Is that the norm for a first time extraction?

Using swim and all the "my friend" language is too paranoid, its hard to read and it won't provide you with any legal protection.

Being careful with your health while extracting is not paranoid, it is sensible.

It's crazy but i used to be a hypochondriac. it rears it's ugly head around every once in awhile. i woke up today worrying about fume exposure and my user name here.

i know the fume exposure is dumb, but it's that old beast in me making me worry. the anxiety creates it's own symptoms that makes one question what's causing them, snowballing into a panic attack. cold, tingly, sweaty limbs; perspiration on the brow; warm then cold flashes; bowel disturbances that all disappear when the mood alleviates. any anxiety is very rare for me now a days, but usually are from worrying about health or legal matters. i was wearing a respirator after all. smelled nothing, cracked it for only a second out of curiosity and smelled (surprisingly familiar) paint thinner smell. Almost identical to pvc primer. so now i'll be absolutely wearing a respirator while working with pvc primer and glue now!

anyway, i'm worrying mostly about this account's user name. not sure how to request a name change but i'd feel much better with a different one. even though a google/yahoo/bing search comes up with nothing related to me, i'm still uncomfortable with it and feel there's a slight link to me. do i pm Traveler on this? i'll go ahead and do that. i know previous posts refer to the OP as this user name, but i'd feel much better with something different completely unrelated to anything or anyone associated with me. i'm trying to not get into any revealing info, hence the reasoning vagueness.

As far as what's in the freezer, i looked when i got home from work and i DO see little blobs of 3 and 4 millimeter crystals! super white looking from what i can see through the sides and bottom of the glass tray. i'll pour and let evap tomorrow.

feeling much better now than earlier. thanks for dealing with my paranoia.

a1pha: don't sweat it. i saw it as concern! and i appreciate it greatly. thank you! plus, this name and the avatar i made, makes me chuckle like crazy! so that happened because of you. ever been a muse before? BWAH!

currently, naphtha was poured from tray into mason jar through a coffee filter to collect floaters. it was super easy with the center disc of a mason jar lid removed and the outer threaded ring screwed over a coffee filter that was pushed into the jar making a filter basket of sorts. the glass tray and filter are evaporating in patio. shockingly no noticeable smell (now after cleanup) unless you stand about 2 feet from the tray. after work it should all be good and i can collect and weigh.

i only did 50g mhrb for this first time. seriously shocked at how white the little guys are! seems to be a lot too. take a looksey...
