how about it?

To my knowledge both the Banisteriopsis caapi and Syrian rue, when ingested, cause a drop in blood pressure.

My question is, could this be a cause for concern in temperatures around lets say 0 degrees?

I have experienced severe body temperature fluctuations with aya before (at both ends of the spectrum) however, I do understand that this can be subjective and is effected by breath and thought.

Also if anybody would like to give account of any experiences with ayahuasca in colder climates i.e. weather you felt the temperature affected the trip, weather they felt in danger of real harm?

please forgive my poorly structured questioning and my most probable my poor grammar.

if this question has been posed in a different form already I must apologise as I have scoured around and have not been successful in finding any results.

any feedback is much appreciated

even grammatically Big grin

I have also experienced body temperature fluctuations while tripping on aya, I think it's because the area of the brain controlling temperature, the hypothalamus, is likely affected by substances that activate serotonin receptors and this makes it difficult for the body to control body temperature when a lot of DMT just storms in and starts activating receptors randomly.

I don't think it would be a good idea to tripp outside when it's cold. I live in a one of the worlds coldes countries myself and one very common cause of death for young healthy adults here are freezing to death while druged or drunk. Especially if a person lie on the ground he/she will lose a lot of heat to the soil very fast. But I don't think 0 degrees Celsius would be a big problem, as long as you have a sitter that can keep an eye on you while tripping.

Cold flashes seem to be caused by activation of 5-HT1a receptor which dilates the blood vessels which allows me heat to escape the body. There may be other mechanisms but so far this is what i believe to be doing it. It's often reported with 5-HT1a receptor agonists that people experience body temperature changes. It's probably best not to take Ayahuasca in a severely cold or severely hot climate. If i get cold, i put on jackets and other clothing, if i get too hot, i cut on some air. I've personally learned that being outside on Ayahuasca when it's cold, isn't fun at all. But when it's nice and not cold, not hot, but just right, it feels awesome.

As someone who lives in a cold climate I have wondered the same. I have felt cold chills after changa, for sure, even in a 'normally' heated room environment. I have wondered though, if it is an actual drop in body temperature (seems unlikely to me, as the chill hits so quickly afterwards and disapates fairly quickly too) or just a perceived chill as the brain tries to get a grip on returning to awareness of the body.

The danger would be if there is a drop in core body temperature which could lead to hypothermia. Dressing warm and well insulated or even wrapping in a quilt or sleeping bag would help. The longer duration of aya compared to changa could also be an issue.

I love mushrooms in the winter though, as well as acid back in the day. Tripping in snow covered woods and fields is wonderful, as long as your dressed for it and, like me, sort of a fanatic for winter wonderland.

Just wondering, were you active and moving about or were you lying still and relatively stationary?

I get cold pretty easily while tripping. I pretty much just lay there, so I wouldn't want to be outside in 0 degrees (F or C?) when on aya. Are you planning on doing this alone? Be careful

No, just a hypothetical journey.

I have felt the vine "calling me" for a while now to deal with a few issues but decided against it and am currently eating pizza instead Very happy

Think im going to wait for the harsh weather to pass then really explore.

Thanks for the concern universecannon i shall remain safe.

I recently had my first DMT experience with an anahuasca brew using syrian rue and Acacia confusa. I went over to my local forest preserve and hiked around during the trip. It was 0 degrees F when I got to the woods. There was about 1ft of snow on the ground. It was night and the temperature was falling.

I had a great experience. It was a difficult trip though. I was at a large flat snow covered field once the effects really started peaking. The ground of the entire field looked as though it was rocking and swaying like a roiling ocean. I began to feel as though I was being swallowed by white. Although it wasn't exactly white. It was more like sparkling white with tints of green and purple.

The combination of the new experience, extremely intense effects, and slight discomfort due to the cold made me start to panic. I tried to walk home, but I was having a hard time finding my way. I walked for a while and couldn't recognize my surroundings so I just sat down and tried to wait out the effects.

It wasn't until I stopped moving that I started getting cold. So I think that as long as you are dressed warmly and remain active, you probably won't be in any physical danger due to the cold. But the physical discomfort might negatively influence the trip.

I have used ayahuasca in the middle of winter at below freezing temperatures outdoors. I was around a fire and had many layers of clothes, and many blankets. I would not do this unless someone was sober to make sure you are staying warm. The come-up of this particular trip I remember feeling like I was going to freeze to death and had to crawl into my sleeping bag and curl in a ball for warmth. After the initial come-up I was fine. If you are going to use psychedelics in the cold please make sure you take them time to prepare properly, wear many layers, its better to take stuff off when to warm then have nothing to put on when you are freezing.
