SWIM received sherlock GVG yesterday and had some success smoking pure spice atop 7 screens. Chore boy copper mesh will be tried soon to avoid liquid DMT escaping. Some has already visibly fallen and settled on the glass where the neck bends before the center bulb.

Anyway, comparing these pictures, the newer sherlock GVG has this extra "dimple" in the bowl area before the part where the glass forms a smaller opening. The sherlock comes with a screen sitting BELOW the dimple, just above the small opening. These two levels are probably .25" apart, and it seems screens could be placed on either level. I'm assuming this is the intended design: to have two operating levels for screen placement to decide if you want more or less heat, i.e. whatever you're vaping further or closer to the heat source.

Sherlock: (note the screens sitting on two different levels above and below the dimple)

Old GVG (no dimple, only one place for screen to set):

So, with the sherlock, which position should the screen be set?? Assume SWIM will be placing a copper mesh above said screen. Do I want the spice closer or further from the ceramic disc?

Don't know about the sherlock, but want to compliment on the choice of your avatar. Love

But have you had a look at this thread?

I use a ball of copper scrubber in between the bottom of the bowl and the 'dimple' / ridge bit. Hold the tip of the torch flame about 1" from the ceramic bit and 1 hit doses are easily attainable.

These gauzes (basil bush conical gauze) also fit perfectly on the ridge and are great for enhanced leaf / changa / mj.

I think you might be better off putting your screen in the lower part of the chamber. I'm not sure about changa, as I have limited experience vaporizing changa in the GVG, but freebase seems to vape much better when it is in the lower part. When using copper mesh or something similar, a screen is not necessary. Personally, I have found the smaller-sized ceramic flavor disc to be far superior to copper mesh. A replacement ceramic filter from VaporGenie would most likely work very well also. You don't need a screen for either these or the copper mesh, as it would only allow air to flow around the ceramic disc/copper mesh, rather than through it.

Any update TheHornedOne? I too just got my GVG Sherlock today and got the VG SS liquid pad. I have seen on other threads that there needs to be airflow around the pad.. but with the Sherlock's "dimple" it appears that could never be the case.. when I put the pad below the dimple it is a very tight but perfect fit with no airflow around it. If I put it in halfway so the dimple is holding it tightly in place this allows for a little airflow around it but make it where the flame filter is about .25 of an inch closer to the Stainless steel pad. Planning on going deep for my first time and it would seem like you have further insight nowSmile thank you for your time!!! I could take pictures if needed. Muh love!
And IF you go in, should you turn left or right... or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite? Or go around back and sneak in from behind? Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find, for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind. ~ Dr. Suess
