"Back salting" (what you propose, in essence) has been suggested when working with plant material that could need a defat, rather than defatting due to the latter's wastefulness/time intensivity. Afaik, naphtha is a poor candidate for the nps, something like Xylene, Toluene, D-Limonene would be preferable.
This procedure is used when you want a salt form of an alkaloid, such as acetate, citrate, hcl, fumarate, etc.
