I wasn't aware there was any contraindication.

I read your title and thought you combined oxytocin(not oxycodone/contin) and aya. I was intrigued.

It's oxycontin, not oxycotin.Wink

Might help with your searches. Good luck!

Wait at least 5x the half-life. For some substances like SSRIs that are taken regularly, better wait even more, as you said. But dont interupt your treatment without consulting your doctor.

Why are you talking oxycontin? How regularly are you taking it?

I`d shoot a pm to corpus callosum just in case anyways, he`s the most qualified person to answer this to you.

Sorry pal, I thought you would take the time to at least read and think about the three sentences:

Quote:

The activity of OxyContin is primarily due to the parent drug oxycodone. OxyContin is designed to provide delivery of oxycodone over 12 hours. [..]

Oxycodone is extensively metabolized and eliminated primarily in the urine as both conjugated and unconjugated metabolites. The apparent elimination half-life ( t½ ) of oxycodone following the administration of OxyContin was 4.5 hours compared to 3.2 hours for immediate-release oxycodone.

The biological half-life or elimination half-life of a substance is the time it takes for a substance (for example a metabolite, drug, signalling molecule, radioactive nuclide, or other substance) to lose half of its pharmacologic, physiologic, or radiologic activity, as per the MeSH definition.

No need to become an expert, these 3 sentences and some fraction math is all you need to answer the question for yourself. After some iterations, the system has cleared the drug. For Oxycodone you need 4.5h iterations.

Btw, for every prescription drug you'll find prescribing information. So google PRESCRIBING INFORMATION oxycodone and you'll find: http://labeling.pfizer.c...showlabeling.aspx?id=620

Quote:
7.4 Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors have been reported to intensify the effects of at least one opioid drug causing anxiety, confusion, and significant depression of respiration or coma. The use of OXECTA is not recommended for patients taking MAOIs or within 14 days of stopping such treatment.

So drinking Aya while high on Oxycodone is a no-no. Let the drug reach its pharmacologic activity of ~ 2-0,X % and then think about drinking Aya.

I agree with the good advice given above. Mixing ayahuasca and opiates is dangerous. It would be foolhardy to play doctor and/or shaman in this situation.

If your friend is hooked on pain pills, you should encourage them to go to rehab and be in the care of experts, medical experts! After that process, if existential questions still remain, then maybe ayahuasca is a good idea. But only after. More drugs do not, and cannot, cure drug addictions.

Also, having had multiple friends lose themselves in the world of addiction, it is always better to express your concern and support for their wellness sooner than later. The longer we wait, the worse these situations can get!

I completely agree with this, even as a person who has found psychedelics to be an integral part of their recovery. He'd be more likely to benefit from the ayahuasca if he has already kicked the habit first.

That being said, to answer your question, I would advise he be off the opioids for 2 weeks prior to ingesting any MAOI's. Opioids are mostly out of the system in a week, give or take a few days due to personal metabolism. when I was using, I failed drug tests after 6 days of abstinence, and passed drug tests after 7 days of abstinence. Drug tests have cutoff levels though, so a person can have a certain amount of the drug remaining in their system and still pass. It is safest to be absolutely certain that there are no traces of oxycodone in his body whatsoever before taking ayahuasca.

And, as stated above, corpus callosum is definitely the guy to ask about these things.

Well I was hooked on kratom for two years, hydrocodone for another one, and as long as I was using kratom I still used harmala/ayahuasca - HOWEVER, others have taken this mix and gotten very sick with headaches and nausea. Kratom has lots of secondary alkaloids with various effects, so it isn't a good comparison with oxycodone. Hydrocodone, on the other hand, is in the same ballpark (not to conflate the two, as oxycodone is much stronger). However, my soul was being completely dampened by the stuff and, with all the anxiety from a pending spine surgery, depression, interpersonal strife, and whatnot - I didn't do much tripping during that year. I tried to keep to dose very low (5-10mg) when I did, as opposed to my normal dose of 30-60mg daily, and tried to not take my nighttime dose after the trip had ended. But withdrawing from opioids is very painful and WILL influence trips negatively.

I think it takes a person very skilled and experienced with psychedelics to use them DURING an opioid withdrawal. And it is potentially quite dangerous, psychologically and physically. I would recommend getting the W/D's over with before tripping. However, it IS very useful to see what how dumb addiction is, and Ayahuasca or Harmala/Jurema seem to be keen on telling addicts what's up.
