I actually made an account a couples months ago and forgot all my login info so I just made another one. Not sure how I should introduce myself, i could look on some other posts but I'm too lazy and I'm already here to so here it goes. 24, I hail from the northeast. Started using psychedelics when I was 17. Not a frequent user, to be honest but psychedelics, especially in a therapy and research context remain one of my interests. I love learning about new research and findings. And I do love traveling. However, I really came here for guidance on a particular issue.
I've suffered a painful and 'unique' sort of trauma as a little girl that I don't want to go into detail about. But i mention it because it's the reason I have the issues I do. To resolve these issues I would like to try psychedelic psychotherapy so I was asking about how to go about finding someone who could give me this type of therapy. I was feeling lost as to where I should even start.
Some of you had some great ideas. I had not considered speaking with my psychiatrist beforehand and planning to come in 'expanded'. I'm not sure he would agree to it but I'm not confident he wouldn't either so it is worth a shot! It is definitely something I'm comfortable bringing up. This might be too expensive though. Perhaps with him or someone else I could work out a sort of "package deal"
The other suggestion was to look on the MAPS website. I did but as of yet, I do not qualify for the studies being conducted right now. I will keep an eye out though!
The other thought was that the plants themselves are the healers. This is undoubtedly true. However, i think it would be great to have someone experienced, someone whose done this with others and with themselves, to act as a guide. It's just the sort of experience I'm looking for. This being said, I think the plant (or RC) is still the teacher - a therapist would just function as a guide. There is something great about having someone who knows the right questions to ask and to bounce ideas off of and talk to about what you're feeling and thinking when you choose to do so. But in the meantime I am open to letting the plants (or RCs) act as solo healers is definitely a good option.
I've decided that I should go to workshops and conventions (hoping to go to Psychedelic Science next time around!
) where I can find like-minded people who may have connections. I really think its a word of mouth thing - definitely not out in the open therapy. If anyone has any other suggestions or know anyone who would be helpful please feel free to let me know!!
On the subject of psychedelic psychotherapy - here is a link to a blog post of mine with a speech by Ann Shulgin on psychedelic psychotherapy and the shadow beast. I thought it was really moving and it's part of the reason im searching for someone experienced to guide me!
Find speech on soundcloud here!Thank you for your help, suggestions, and your warm and welcoming spirits!
