I am completely convinced that there is a wealth of information built into us, with miles of intuitive knowledge tucked away in the genetic material of every one of our cells. Something akin to a library containing uncountable reference volumes, but without any obvious route of entry. And, without some means of access, there is no way to even begin to guess at the extent and quality of what is there. The psychedelic drugs allow exploration of this interior world, and insights into its nature. - Shulgin

those portraits are superb, its kind of freaky because that's exactly what im working on at the moment.

im guessing those are real images of people or did you create them?

yeah most of them are edited self-portraits, the wild guy with the dreadlocks and the horseman are friends.

Those aren't 100% CG, Beacon? Either way, you are fucking awesome, I have to say. Really, really humbling.

Would you please share a bit of your workflow?

thanks Art, much appreciated. my workflow always starts with either a 3D model or photography (the latter in 8 out of 10 cases)... and then i just add more and more photographic elements in Photoshop.

in the Idiot March image for example, the ground layer is a photo i shot out of an airplane window somewhere over the desert, and the entire army is a simple 3D model duplicated a few hundred times. the flames, smoke, fog, textures and color correction are all Photoshop.

oftentimes i'll paint random blotches on a piece of paper and scan it, then throw bits and pieces onto the composition, etc.... just keep going until it's where i want to be i guess.

i'll do a little breakdown of an image if you're interested, just pick one (although i'm not sure if it's ok to show original photos of actual people on the forum).

Crazy. And that was all modeled in what? Maya?

I would love to see the same step by step breakdown of any of the portraits, but I understand the anonymity concern.

Beacon, thanks for posting. I know I've already told you this in private but, for a guy who has only tripped twice in a lifetime, your stuff definitely tickles the ol' psychedelic funnybone. It's art that you can look deeply into, even the dark stuff, with a little extra dimension.

I look forward to seeing your gallery go up!

Handel, that's a truly unusual- and elegant- piece there, very offbeat narrative.

Thank you, Jbark. Very kind words as always. I think I've got another 60 hours of work to go on this sonofabitch until it all somehow pulls together. Fingers crossed.

And yes, animating them is definitely part of the long range plan. I'm committed to a course of study.

SalviaDroid, I'm really digging your whole series. You're getting a great sense of warm luminosity... And nice use of patterns.

Art, the back of that feller's head is a sizzling DMTasty treat. I'd love to see the actual patterns animate, with the different colored layers shrinking and growing, morphing. You definitely nail the color scheme.

Oh, I'm way ahead of you. Just need to learn how to animate. But it is on the docket, believe me. I've got pretty specific pictures in my head of where I'm headed long term, and animation plays a big part in it. Of course, there's a chasm of learning between here and there, but I'm convinced I will get there in time.

I'm just learning now how to do separate render passes and comp them together in Photoshop. I've never done this before, but I'll be getting my hands dirty with it in another week, and I can see how this will make everything pop a whole lot harder than the simple BPR renders I posted above (and everything I've done up to this point).

Say, did I post this one already? I painted the top one in 1982, while under the enigmatic spell of LSD-25, in water colors. I call it Empty Mind. The two on the bottom were done in 1986 under the glorious influence of psilocybin mushrooms. Full Moon Dreamer and Peyote Dreamer. Both in acrylic paints. In all three cases, these were done before approaching the peak (obviously).

Sorry I've nothing much recent to share... maybe I will get back into artwork, soon. My last few drawings were about a year back but you folks REALLY inspire me to jump back in!!! Thumbs up

There is no self to which I cling, for I am one with everything.
