I thought it would be fun to collect all of the random hear-say stories about DMT that people might have gathered over the years and have a topic to debunk them (sort of like the larger psychedelic mythbusters topic in Open Discussion).
There are a lot of misconceptions about DMT floating around, especially among drug-using young people who might not have a good grounding in chemistry or neuroscience. That is certainly the case at my college.
Some of my favorites are:
1) DMT is synthesized during the first 30 days of life.
FALSE - as far as I know.
2) DMT is synthesized in the pineal
UNKNOWN - this is up in the air. It's certainly not proven true.
3) DMT is released when you die, to help your soul "move on."
UNKNOWN - probably not. I hope this isn't true, because then what happens to people who die instantly?
That documentary "The Spirit Molecule" did a lot to bring DMT into the public consciousness, but didn't do much actual education: a lot of people sound like they know someone who watched the documentary and got caught up in the floaty, philosophical implications.
What have you guys got?
Blessings
