My wife went there for about a month. She loved it but came back with a terrible tropical disease. Antibiotics helped her get over it instantly once they identified it as Rickettsia, but she still has some minor scars from the spots (mostly just on the feet, but they're going away slowly). If you have open cuts or scrapes, don't come in contact with any animals. Don't give anything to the child beggars, of which there are plenty; they work for people who steal most of their earnings.

Could give them food?
Everything I write is fictional roleplay. Obviously! End tribal genocide: www.survival-international.org Quick petitions for meaningful change: www.avaaz.org/en/
End prohibition: www.leap.cc www.tdpf.org.uk And "Feeling Good" by David D.Burns MD is a very useful book.

Is giving them food alright?
I haven't been, but I can tell you that when I was in Thailand, everyone who told me they'd come in from India said it was their favourite place, and that the people were wonderful. Have fun!

Ill be careful, fati, thanks Smile

Ive already been in india once before for a month, but only south, hampi, goa and so on. It was incredible trip anyways, hampi in special, check it out!

As for beggars, its a tricky thing.. I also come from third world country so have faced this issue several times. One simply cannot stop and give something to every begging person as there are too many, you wouldnt ever stop. Also this by itself doesnt help in the end. I am also very aware of the 'exploitation of child beggars.

But on occasions I did give food, or at least eye contact, a smile and an unspoken good wish on the person.

In india I was impressed how some of the poor begging women are actually beautiful, and dressed so nicely with the saris.

Its an incredible country, with all its contrasts, and the Himalayas have always been a dream. Each part of india seems to be quite unique, definitely worth a visit. Rellik, its true a LOT of people said Rajasthan is incredible, but unfortunately its not in my plans for this time (another good reason to go back sometime hehe).. Now im gonna focus on the Himalayas, treking around, and also spending a few days in Mcleod Ganj/Dharamsala, where the tibetan refugees and the dalai lama live.

Coatl, I did watch darjeeling limited, its the one with owen wilson right? I remember it being strange, but good, but unfortunately cant remember much (there was one very crazy unrelated beginning, wasnt there?)

shitty copy stand work of the original. but still a good representation of Rajasthan. middle and i mean middle of nowhere, or everywhere...the air is the best that i have ever breathed. the food(vegetables) are the most flavorful that i have put in my mouth.
the light, oh my so much Ultraviolet, amazing, very similar to Cuzco light on a sunny day.

all this reliving is making me want to leave and live there forever. i would fit right in Pleased

Yes traveled throughout India a few years ago, what an amazing country! I worked up from Mumbai to Goa to Aurangubad to Delhi to Agra - The Taj. Got very sick in Goa for about a week, still not sure what it was but man, it was coming out of both ends and was not too pleasant. Did glean some interesting hallucinations although so it was not all horrible. Would absolutely love to do the Himalayas so that's so great that you can, can't wait to hear back about it!

By far the most amazing places I visited was near Aaurangabad, 2 places called Ellora, and Ajanta which were basically a series of caves carved into the mountainside, very intricate and detailing the life and death of Buddha. Ellora was my favourite, we spent all day in what was called Cave 16 which was an entire city carved out of a single rock, far more impressive than the Taj Mahal!

Yes beggars were incessant and difficult for a newbie traveler like myself to deal with, many women with babies that were hard to ignore, but that would be the advice if I could offer any, rude as it sounds. There are just so many and white means money in their eyes, again, shame to say it. It is a very poor country as you well know if you've been there before and these people do lead a rather harsh life. But I also have a very fond memory in Delhi of a one legged, one armed man hopping his way down the street towards us pointing with his eyes to his stumps and asking for money (baksheesh) and then me saying sorry but no and then he just shrugged, laughed and limped away again.

Goa is a very beautiful place as well, never really expected such a tropical paradise in India to be quite honest. The Himalayas should be a wonderful retreat from the hectic traffic and clogged atmosphere of the cities.

Edit: Pics fixed Pleased

Hey, sounds like a nice travel you did. I had read about Ajanta and Elora before my first trip, when I was looking for places not too far from goa to check these amazing temples.. In the end we went to Hampi, but definitely gotta go there sometime, the pictures you posted are very nice !

As for getting sick, yeah a lot of people get there in india at some point.. Last time I was there, my wife, her brother and his girlfriend all got sick, not from eating the street samosas or things like that, but after eating in a quite fancy italian restaurant in Anjuna heheh... I was the only one that didnt get sick, maybe the Dreamlandlian bacteria has made me resistent haha, but I wont brag much because soon im there and I dont want to get sick Very happy

Yes Goa is quite nice.. Did you rent a bike? Its incredible feeling of freedom to just go around on the bike there. We rented a house in Anjuna and drove around, went to places like Arambol and so on. Do you know Chapora? and scarlet's juice shop? We always had breakfast there, damn dirty looking place but actually wonderful, and funny scenes happening on the street in front... Such characters all around, and also the cows, trying to steal my fruit salad haha

Rellik.. Goa is not at all more secret language than indian.. Basically nobody there speaks portuguese anymore, only some old people.. All the madness and the people and everything is very indian (a more shanti beach version of it). Though there is some architectural influence from the portuguese, thats for sure, some very nice portuguese style big houses and so on.

Yes it was quite the adventure, it was very short however, the whole trip crammed into 15 days! We stayed in Baga in Goa, no I really wish we had rented bikes in Goa would have loved to travel the coast on a bike but too little time, only spent 4 days in Goa, rented a nice beach cottage though. Never heard any of the names you mention, Bobbie's restaurant in Baga was our hang. Upon looking into it, Hampi looks equally amazing, what with the temples and all.
Yes you are lucky about not getting sick, but it was interesting and I think added to the India experience.

I also have a trip planned in a few months, aiming for 7 months in Southeast Asia, where I will DEFINITELY be renting a bike. Very happy
