A close friend of mine is trying the Q21Q21 tek after having
experimenting with Aya for a while. I'm documenting what he did out of excitement (it's not really informative, just go read the tek).
Ingredients:
- 100g shredded MHRB (Peruvian inner root bark, from a sustainable source, supposedly top top quality - had to wait ages for it), powdered in an electric coffee grinder. Some tiny tiny TINY almost transparent fibers remained, but most of it was nice and powdery.
- 75g pure calcium hydroxide. Had to order from abroad.
- 100ml 5% acetic acid. Only had 30% acetic acid, so it was diluted with 5 parts water to 1 part vinegar to yield 5%.
- 150ml just-sub-boiling water
- 133ml naptha (Ronsonol! - amazing that they sell it over here)
Utensils: No plastic - all stainless steel or glass.
- Stainless steel turkey baster with fine sucker/injector attachment (had to order from abroad ... they don't even eat turkey in this country!!!)
- Stainless steel potato masher
- Two thin stainless steel bowls, 1 fits inside the other
- Two small oblong pyrex containers with airtight lids
- Glass kettle
- Chopsticks and a stainless steel spoon
Pre-pull procedure:
1) Put MHRB in small steel bowl
2) Add 100ml 5% acetic acid gradually, stir until moist/clumpy
3) Add 150ml just-sub-boiling water, 'thick pea soup' texture, slides when bowl tilted
4) Wait 40 mins, stirring every few mins (used both chopsticks and spoon to stir - they seemed to have different effects)
5) Added 75g calcium hydroxide and mixed in VERY well. It took a while and was harder than expected. No red patches or white clumps remained. Top went dark when mixing stopped as described as 'normal' in the tek
6) Ended up with consistency 2, the moist-but-crumbly one which absorbs less naptha
My friend decided 'what the hell' and did a pull about 15 mins later. The tek author describes getting 10-35% in this type of quick pull. My friend will do more pulls at 24/48h and later using the same procedure.
1) Went into bathroom with all materials/utensils, shut door and open the windows (need ventilation)
2) Added boiling water to larger steel bowl, put smaller bowl in it - it floated and started to warm up very quickly
3) Added 133ml naptha to small bowl with MHRB in it and stirred every few mins (with both chopsticks and spoon) every few mins
4) Take small bowl out of big bowl and wipe bottom to avoid water drips
5) Use the masher to press the MHRB mix down into a solid mass, pretty much all the naptha rises to the top
6) Extract naptha by tipping bowl and using fine nozzle of turkey baster, being careful not to get any naptha in the rubber bulb
7) Put naptha in pyrex dish, seal up the top and stick in the freezer
8 ) Store the MHRB mix in another airtight pyrex dish and store at room temp until next pull
My friend can't wait to look in the freezer tomorrow morning.
My friend's wife will be mad if the fridge/freezer starts to smell of naptha!
