Hello everybody! I really need some advice as to what I am doing wrong with my mhrb extraction. I initially had 500 grams of bark.

My first extraction I used Noman's updated tek word for word ( No ammonia wash of course) with about 150 grams of bark. I used 2250 ml of distilled water with 175 grams of pure NaOh. I prepared my basified water solution first, making sure it was not too hot and making sure the reaction was complete. Then I added my bark and left it in the jar for over an hour shaking it at regular intervals. My bark was not pre powdered I blended it into a mixture of powder and fibers.
I went ahead and did my naptha pulls. 4 pulls in total leaving the 5th pull in there to sit. I used about 150 ml of naptha per pull ( I am aware this may have been too much now ). My beginning pulls were pretty yellow in color while the later ones were mostly clear with a tiny tint of yellow. I froze my pulls overnight in jars in a freezer at -16 degrees celcius. ( closest to -20 my freezer will get)
And here comes my problem. In the morning I was expecting snow globes but nothing. The jars were completely freezing and the naptha looked more clear than the night before it was no longer cloudy. Out of 4 jars 2 of them appeared to have a somewhat white somewhat amber precipitate at the bottom. I poured out the naptha over the filter and these white amber colored precipitates fell into the filter. I was really ecstatic that I had such a good amount of DMT on my first try however this was not the case...The "precipitate" quickly melted back into a brownish clearish liquid.
I almost think it was just frozen water that somehow was still in the jars ( I did rinse them out prior to putting the pulls in them )and possibly some NaOh bark solution snuck its way into my pulls which froze in the freezer while the naptha did not....The filtered naptha I left in a glass pyrex pan to evaporate. The liquid naptha was clearly yellow, yet when it completely evaporated, nothing. There was absolutely nothing left over in the pan after evaporations....

So a couple days later I tried again with almost the same method. I used 100 grams of bark this time, 1250 ml of water and about 200 grams of NaOH. This time around my naptha pulls were almost completely clear. After freezing overnight, same thing, no crystals, after evaping, nothing remains. I would like to add I did not use a fan in one of my evaps and I did use a fan on the other evap. Both evaps produced nothing. I still have the NaOh solutions with the bark so perhaps some precious spice is salvagable. I also still have a couple jars of yellow naptha sitting in the freezer with no crystals.

Can somebody please try to help me figure out what I am doing wrong? Any advice on how to do another extraction or to salvage something from my previous extractions would both be greatly appreciated. I still have about 250 grams of bark I do not want to waste. Help me please guys (: Thank you so much for taking the time to read/

It really doesn't make any sense at all that your solvent would be cloudy and/or yellow and leave nothing upon evaporation. That yellow color it picked up was obviously *something* and it wouldn't just evaporate along with the solvent.

Personally, I would combine them all and evaporate the mix down to around 50-75ml or so and attempt freeze precipitation again.

I really wish I had better answers for you but I'm truly at a loss about how evaporating your solvent provided *nothing* when it clearly picked up something.

IMO you're using way too much water...too much lye and too much solvent.
Beyond that I would guess that the bark you have is not rootbark but something else.

I would do This tek with 50g of your bark and see what turns up.
Thumbs up

I agree on all accounts, but can you think of any reason that a solvent that went yellow/cloudy would produce absolutely nothing upon evaporation? Even if the color change is only due picking up oils or other inactive substances how is it possible they wouldn't be left in the dish after the evaporation was complete?

Something was there...but the solvent was too dilute.
In this case I would re-use the same solvent (30-50ml pulls) on a smaller extraction as recommended.
Wink

If it is not rootbark then the colourant could just be a small amount of oil dyeing the solvent yellow.

In most situations this would have worked just fine even when you use to much lye and water.

Check your source for the bark, lately there has been some bunk bark around.

take care

are you sure that you have mhrb? You could have been ripped off and gotten some other bark without any spice.

Thank you for the replies and help everyone. Yea I am extremely confused as well as to how there was really nothing leftover when I evaporated...I did only evap a small amount, 1 jar....but Im going to do what you suggested and combine them all and try to freeze precip again after getting the amount down to size...
and if anybody is interested PM me or I could PM you who my supplier was and see if anybody else has any experience with this supplier??

I dont know if it's again the Terms to post supplier names (plus it is stupid)

Thanks again (: will update

So i tried your extraction Cyb! Razz my pictures matched yours and everything. I got nice yellow pulls from my naptha (50 ml pulls). I put the pulls in the freezer in pyrex glass sheets for about 18 hours. This time i did notice some crystals in my sheets and I was able to get some product out of my pulls, however the only way I could get any product was with evaporation and scraping...When I poured out the naptha from the sheets the crystals for the most part quickly melted into a liquid...Some crystals remained and I was able to recover them after putting the fan on the sheets but very few probably 25 mg or less from each pull.

I evaporated the remaining naptha and was able to scrape a decent amount of yellow goo from my sheets, I tested the yellow goo without purifying and it is great! However even with scraping I got very little, maybe 100 mg of dmt goo from 50 grams of bark.

So I suppose my main problem is just with getting the freeze precip to work. I think I have came to the conclusion that what I have is indeed mimosa hosttilis bark, however I believe it has a very low concentration of dmt in it (probably not real inner root bark). I think the bark itself does not have much dmt and thus the concentration is not nearly enough in my pulls for freeze precip....

I will probably try your tek again and this time put all of my pulls together, evap them down to a 1/3 or so, and then try to freeze precip. Good idea? Any advice? Thanks in advance....
