SWIM has an idea for a general drying device to be used for most drying purposes. The device would comprise of two frames: One screened off on all sides (top and bottom as well) with a hatch on one side, the other able to hold a standard sized box fan securely with an open back for air passage. The legs on the the fan side would be about 6in. and hinged to fold up while the legs on the screened side would be 2-3in. and fixed in place. The fan would always be blowing away from the screened off area. When standing on its longer legs, it could be used to dry botanicals--such as psilocybe or trichocereus flesh--overtop the fan blowing down. When standing on its shorter legs, an evaporation dish could be placed inside the screened area, under the fan blowing up. This should work wonders, but suggestions or other ideas are welcome. Also SWIM was wondering if he could get a ballpark figure of the ratio of grams of dried tricho flesh to inches of fresh tricho cutting (assuming the cutting has been properly despined, cored and skinned) amor_fati attached the following image(s):  Drying Box.gif (21kb) downloaded 97 time(s).

have you thought of using drierite instead of a fan and heat source? you can reuse it forever... and its cheap and works real good... SWIM's never had much luck drying botanicals with desiccants. Seems like they work well for keeping things dry, but I don't know how thoroughly botanicals will dry without airflow. SWIM tried drying psilocybes in a sealed container with desiccant, but it took forever. They've always dried better just sitting on top of a cabinet or even better next to the intake of a space heater (it doesn't get at all hot back there). SWIM only uses heat sources with DMT fumarate by putting it in the oven on the lowest setting. He wouldn't use it for any botanicals though.

But what specifically and how long? If botanicals, can it get them completely crispy? How would SWIY recommend using them? SWIM has read about using them, but someone always seems to have trouble with it and is advised to just use a fan.

SWIM has found that psilocybe dry best through initial air-dry to ambient humidity and then sealing with a desiccant to remove the final moisture. the box looks great by the way, should be a fun project All of my posts are fiction.

Cool!! I'd bet you could build a smaller one for under $100, @ Home De pot. Why do the longer legs need to be hinged? WS All posts are fictional short stories depicting the adventures of WSaged!! WS So it's easier to stow. Certainly a smaller one could be built if one had a smaller fan in mind, but SWIM's concern is for the amount of material to be dried. SWIM's now considering a modular shelving system within the screened area.

But you mean like a 3'x3'x6", stand-up, room fan right? That would take up some space... I think the same idea might work well in a smaller version too, for drying precipitates & crystals etc...
