Hi,

I just want to get everyone's thoughts on the issue of talking about our spice experiences & the thoughts stemming from them with other, straight, non-drug folk.
I've just had a magical amazingly spiritual experience and though it is very difficult to verbalise one strong impression coming from it is that I should communicate it to others and be more open about this part of my life.

The spice and entheogenic experiences generally are a major interest and something I'm passionate about, particularly the interest and facination and sheer wonder in exploring these new worlds and experiences & substances. how do you communicate the majesty and overpowering beauty/ overpoweringness of it all without being though crazy or drug addled or running the risk of it getting back to the police/work/etc and causing you problems?

IT IS ONLY TO THE EXTENT THAT WE ARE WILLING TO EXPOSE OURSELVES OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO ANNIHILATION THAT WE DISCOVER THAT PART OF OURSELVES THAT IS INDESTRUCTIBLE.

He wants to share the beauty of the experience with other. Very understandable feeling. The problem is that most people are completely ignorant when it comes to halucinogenics, and they listen with ears wide open to Government propoganda, and they believe you'll end up in a mental asylum if you use halucinogenics long enough.

I know there is this site, which I'm very thankful for, but I meant sharing & discussing it with the people that you know and talk to , or even just newly meet, in the 'real world'.

Thats my fear, that people will take a closedminded or prejudiced view, or that it'll get me a reputation as a druggy wierdo & police/work hassles. But I'm sure with a community like we have on this forum others have dealt with this issue and, some at least, found ways to manage the problems and share our experiences with those who wouldn't ordinarily know anything about them. I just want to find out how others have dealt with this?

I live with people who are not interested in psychedelics, but otherwise quiet open-minded and intelligent, also don't mind the ocassional non-entheogenic drugs. I have to say that it's very hard to explain why am I going into all that trouble with the extractions and why don't I just get something readily available if I want to "get high".

A lot of times it just not worth trying, it's just so completely different to any other everyday experience that they would think that you're either crazy to believe a hallucination or you're just plain crazy and won't give you any credit that what you're saying might be valid.
"Once I thought I'd been offered a joint but had been given angel dust. I smoked it, but had horrific hallucinations - oh my God, I was out of control.
I saw eight of everything and believed that I could fly.
That was when I stopped taking drugs. I started doing them to be a rebel, then realised that doing drugs just meant I was being an idiot.
Now I hate drugs. I constantly tell kids to stay away from them - they are the root of all evil." - David Gest

SWIM told quite a few friends, some who take illegal things and some who don't. They all think the experience sounds crazy, but they're good friends so they're cool with it. If they were closed-minded people, he wouldn't be their friends. A couple have now tried it a few times.

Whereas when he told his mother and stepfather that he had cured his depression with a hallucinogenic Amazonian drink (he didn't want to say an illegal freebase drug!), the subject was changed quickly and there was tension in the air. Basically, they ignored it because it made them uncomfortable. This is the kind of reaction you'll get from closed-minded people if you're LUCKY. And these two are relatively alternative types compared to the norm!

Whereas his father and stepmother were interested in the aya story and said they'd like to try one day (open minded people).

Bear in mind that the other day the front page of one tabloid was about a mother who found some MDMA in her son's pocket. The guy was a university student so was an adult. Still, the brainwashed mother ratted on him to the police "to save him from drugs". He is now in prison. She has ruined his life. He refuses to speak to his mother now. Be very careful who you tell.

Perhaps like SWIM, substitute the word 'ayahuasca' instead of 'DMT', and go to great pains to explain first how it is legal and found scientifically to be safe.

im in paramedic school. and pretty much everyone knows i had used drugs before. they are unaware that i continue to use drugs besides marijuana, that one kinda hard to hide since i have thc tattooed on my bicep. but ive found that pretty much every single person is accepting of my drug use. very surprising i think.

careful of your motivations for sharing thats all i have to say... even trippers can proselytize...
a common problem with trippers too is ego inflation where they feel they have to share what they have expereinced to save the world...
the right people seem to come around to share it with... that seems to be the way of it...

SWIM's obvious apprehension with sharing is that it is illegal and he would hate to lose his freedom. Second of all, he does not want to make light of what he does. SWIM's psychedelic exploration is something that he takes pretty seriously and running around telling people how many halucinogens he did last week would just make him seem like a druggy. He would rather get involved in a deep and respectful conversation with an open minded person or group of people and be able to lend his opinions and somehow tell them that he derived such thoughts through psychedelic exploration.

My first instinct was to share this wonderful thing with everyone.
I quickly realized it's probably best to keep quiet and let the seeker find.

I like that attitude but I want to be a bit more discrete, I'd rather have people understand the benefis of entheogens to me and see the reverence I hold them in than just think I'm crazy. How do you talk about it? just not caring about consequences?

Yeah, I'm thinking the only way to really bring it out in conversation would be by talking about an interest in entheogens & natve spiritual practices rather than 'I smoked DMT last week and saw the world turn to liquid metal'. Tricky to know how to pitch it though.

No fears on that score, I've no interest in becoming a Learyesque egoist prolesthytiser, I'm not pretentious enough for that. I just want to share a part of my life thats important to me rather than hiding it as if it were a shameful thing you can't ever talk about. Obviously I have to hide it to a certain extent, from certain folk, otherwise it'd be the nuthouse or the jailhouse for me, but I think there has to be a way to be at least a bit more open.

But how do you know what you're looking for if you've never even heard about it? If noone ever mentons DMT or other entheogens in conversation, or talks about their real benefits and experiences how's the seeker going to find - or know that there's something else out there to seek?

I am pretty open about my psychedelics usage with everyone I know. My family knows that I do it and they accept me for who I am. The only place that I ever hide my drug usage is at work. I work pretty closely with about 15 people and there are 2 of them that know about my drug usage. All of the others think that I am straight as an edge. They do question my whacky music though. Don't get me wrong I don't go out telling everyone I meet. I selectively tell the people I think that would be interested. Through my use of psychedelics I can usually tell when I first meet someone if they would be interested or not.

I hear you there... now this is a thing thats really bothered me for a while now... but in some ways the war on drugs and how it effects many of us is a war on our religious freedoms rights...
we have a right to freedom of religion... for many people this isnt a religion, but in the loosest definition of the word its still applicable... most people get some sort of spiritual fulfillment from this work.
so for me its spiritual/religious work, and the laws go against my religious freedoms and because of that im one of the few americans besides bigamists that experience religious persecution in this society and that really sucks... most people can talk about their religion and spiritual beliefs but we cant... that really REALLY bothers me... you can loose everything you have including your freedom because of this spiritual choice and that is just crazy...
its not just a shame its wrong... what frustrates me even more is that there are so many of us and so few of us that actually are willing to stand up for our religious freedoms, to take a stand and make things different... they keep taking more away from us and we just keep shrinking back and hiding...
we have three entheogenic religions totally legalized in the united states right now and thats a great thing... but its nothing compaired to the people out there that have no legal protection... its aweful...
