It is on the Wikkipedia list of psychoactive plants (i know i know) and it only has one refference that is in german! In the toxicity section of the references page it says:

"For toxicity:
The Star Jasmine various alkaloids were detected, including ibogaine. Ibogaine is said to have hallucinogenic effects, of the, of the steppe rue (Peganum harmala) occurring Harmalins similar."

It does include the molecular structure of Ibogaine on the page at least . . .

The webpage it is from translates as www.'toxic plant'.yaddayaddaetc

Does anyone have any contemporary knowledge of this?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Not to worry - just found the google search string thread and used it.
Other alcoloids present may make it less than desirable - bugger.Crying or very sad

This said, from what i read it is mainly Ibogaine present and might be worth (cautious) experimentation . . .

I think that SWIM might buy it just for the smell if nothing else - it seems like a very hardy and quick growing plant too.Thumbs up

Yeah, it would require mass amounts of vegetation to get anything worthwhile unfortunately. I have a plant that I got a year ago and they are very hardy and fast growing and do smell amazing when in bloom, but I don't think I will ever attempt an extraction on it.

Living in NZ it is legal to distill for personal consumption - i have a basic reflux still and can almost hit azeotrope (95.6%abv) in the first part of my run (I normally get around 92% at the beginning).

The first bit of any distillation contains some acetone and methanol along with the ethanol (and some others) and I remove it to use as fire starter.

I was thinking since it will all be evaporated anyway, i might give it a go using this as a solvent to make a star jasmine resin to experiment with.

I've ordered three plants and will try drying, powdering and doing an alcohol extraction on leaf and stem from them (eventually!) .
