So I'm extracting some rue alks and after adding hot vinegar for my manske the pH came out to 6ish. I added some phosphoric acid to bring the pH down but afterwards noticed that I had misread the order of the directions and already added the salt to the vinegar solution before I intended to filter.. I still haven't filtered Will the HCl salts have formed and should I still filter or should I rebase the solution and try to do the manske again?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

I guess my question is will the salts have formed and will the not pass through rid of a coffee filter if I filter the solution the way I shoulder before I added the salt. If they won't pass the filter I can just get rid of the non-essential alks on my second Manske. Also will the Phosphoric Acid have messed the Manske up?

Right now there's a lot of matter settled at the bottom. The aqueous layer on top looks sparkly but I'm guessing that's just because of the salt saturating it. The pH is 4. I'm not sure whether the salts have precipitated along with the plant matter on the bottom. If they have I can just filter and re-base since I didn't filter before I added the salt during this first attempt at Mansking If I base will that somehow destroy the salt that was added making it necessary to re-salt when I re-Manske?

Filter everything. Re dissolve filtrate in hot (slightly acidic) water then filter the plant matter out. Then continue as you should of with the salt. Keep the water you filter just in case it does not work out.

Essentially rue alkaloids are:

Salt form ARE soluble in water but NOT salt water.
Freebase form they are NOT soluble in water or salt water.

The difference between the salt and freebase is that the salt form has the freebase molecule combined with a molecule from the acid. This can give the combined molecules different property's from the pure parent compounds. Freebasing breaks this bond as the base reacts with the acid.

Change in solubility is what you use to extract and clean the alkaloids by a process of dissolving, filtering, making insoluble and retrieving. The process or parts of the process can be repeated until the desired purity is obtained.
