Please read.

http://www.parliament.ns...DF6E05AECA257BE2001DFA34

Quote:
Schedule 1 [5]
Proposed section 36ZD contains definitions of words and expressions used in the proposed Part. A psychoactive substance is defined as being any substance (other than a substance to which the proposed Part does not apply) that, when consumed by a person, has the capacity to induce a psychoactive effect.

Quote:
36ZDDefinitions
substance includes any plant, fungus or natural organism.

Quote:
Schedule 2 [2]–[4]
It will be an offence under the proposed amendments to the Drug Misuse Act made by Schedule 1 [4] to sell, supply, manufacture or possess such a substance unless authorised by or under the Poisons Act

From what I gathered, it will be illegal to possess any plant that can induce a psychoactive effect.

I dearly hope my synopsis is wrong.

Troubling Mad

It doesn't surprise me after the recent election and the countries ultra conservative new PM (As if the Aussie government wasn't conservative enough as it is). That and the NSW attempt to make mescaline containing cacti illegal to possess even for ornamental reasons (and effectively make 1000's of other species technically illegal).

What a bummer Thumbs down

Freedom of religion as granted by the Aust Constitution is probably the strongest ground to stand on. Taking it to the high court is a huge effort, but presumably it will come to that eventually. Meanwhile there is the question of how many users of the 'entheogens' would understand themselves in religious terms. Maybe it is time to get on the front foot over the meaning of this word.

This would never pass. It is so ridiculous that even many conservative people would be outraged when they find common cooking herbs and teas falling under that category.
Long live the unwoke.

It's the biggest piece of bull***t! I have never been so disappointed by our government.
I will be back in twelve hours to post a list, the ridiculous list of things that would now technicly be illegal.
Well I don't know, I guess I said it to invoke thought.

Exactly what jamie said. Almost any OTC medication, any food grade additive, and many foods (including nutmeg), "have the capacity to induce a psychoactive effect", of course depending on the dosage. I do not see a legal way to narrow down the dosing amount parameter into a law, thereby hindering this whole idiotic proposition.

..Bergamot contains small amounts of DMT..
so Earl Gray Tea would be illegal..

and the majority of herbs in the garden..

e.g. common Sage is 'psychoactive'..

not a well thought through piece of legislation..

I had a little look into plants that contain precursors to mescaline.
They wanted mescaline its analogs and precursors illegal.
Making: wattle, maple, spruce, eucalyptus, dill, parsley, celary seeds, carrots, sassafras, nutmeg, cinnamon leaf, bay leaf, clove, black pepper, broad beans, some food preservatives, essentual oils, vanilla and cow poop illegal. Along with the obvious cacti and many medications.

I also heard the bill passed..

Im sure we are all aware of the copious amounts of tryptamine containing plants and grasses in Australia, I mean almost all the turf we have on land is p aquatica or p arundinacea otherwise in the water there is phragmites. :/
Seriously what the hell Australia. 4 years if liberal is still in, im leaving.

Is this surprising?

I thought we all knew by now that our only hope is to educate the young (my generation), so that when these narrow-minded dinosaurs die off, we will have eradicated those who try to suppress the use of psychoactive substances because they're scared little trustfund/college grad wussies who are so afraid of their own damn shadow, they've got to destroy any place it may pop up.

One would think, in a place where everything wants to kill you, people would have bigger balls.

I heard of this plan before.
Then I heard a shitstorm of criticism from Botanists and Cooks and people from all walks of life and I thought
this idea was succesfully rejected.

Just to find out that they're pushing it through afterall. These people are a persistant cancer to mankind.
Sickening.

Beyond DMT-plants and Mescaline cacti..what would this proposterous bill imply?

Will Coffee(Which is defenitely psycho-active) become illegal too? And cane sugar?
And Tea? And Chocolat? And Nutmeg? And Parsley? And most of all: What about Tobacco?
All of these are psychoactive plant-products. According to their own warped "logic"
these all would HAVE to become illegal too. I'd like to see them try.
